Help with CPU cooling and ram advice.

Hi everyone, i’m new here and i wonder could anyone advice me on 2 things?

I’m starting to collect parts for my new build so far i got:

  • Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Master motherboard
  • Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus CPU
  • Gigabyte Geforce RTX 5060 Ti Gaming OC 16gb
  • Corsair RM1000X power supply

I’m trying to pick a cpu cooler and ram. I am not a gamer. I will never play games or do any video editing etc. All i do would be watching films, web browsing, ocasional photo edit etc. Just want an advice about cpu cooling. I would like to avoid AIO if possible and i was thinkin about air coolers? So far picked 2:

Noctua NH-U12A
or
Tryx Turris 620

What do you think guys, will it be ok? I’m open to any other sugestions.

When it comes to ram i was thinkin 32gb dual channel (16bg x 2) and my question is, whould it be big difference between like 6000 or 6400 or 8000 and cl30 or 32 or 34 or 36? Ram prices are a bit mad as you all know so i’m trying to pick a sweet spot in price to performance without spending too much.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone. Kind regards. Bart.

Hey Bart,
Welcome to the community!
You could honestly go a bit higher on the latency to save some money. Something like 32GB DDR5 at 6000 MHz with CL34 or even CL36 will perform basically the same for what you’re doing.
The lower CL kits (like CL30) are great, but the real-world difference for browsing, movies, and light photo work is pretty much unnoticeable. If there’s a decent price gap, it makes more sense to grab a CL34/36 kit and put the savings elsewhere.
6000 MHz is still the key part—just don’t feel like you have to pay extra for the tightest timings.

Thank you kindly for your input. Any toughts on cooling?

I thought maybe just a tower cooler, but every other forum I find online says to get a AIO or a Noctua tower cooler.

Hey Bart, welcome!

For your use, keep it simple:

  • Cooler: Noctua NH-U12A is perfect—quiet, reliable, and more than enough.
  • RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000 MHz CL34/36 is the best value. Higher speeds or lower CL won’t make a noticeable difference for what you do.

Solid build overall :+1:

Those are solid cooling suggestions. it is a solid build, maybe even a bit overbuilt for what you are doing. It should last you for some years though. For your case use you may have been able to skip the GPU and save a few $ or went with a 5050 instead.

Only reason i went with that gpu is that i got it new for 495$ total so since it’s 16gb i tought it will futureproof me for a bit. My last pc build was like 8-10 years ago so i’m going with decent parts so it will last me another decade if i’m lucky.

Thank you everyone for you valid points. I think i’m gonna pull the trigger on that noctua cooler and i will keep scanning web for good ram deals (if you can call todays prices a deal at all). I know now what to look for so i appreciate your relyes. :+1:
