Working on my first build

Working on my first build and would like some feedback what I can cut back on what I can improve trying to stay under 2000 but willing to go there https://newegg.io/e318bc7

not right trying to criticize you here so please don’t take it personal but it’s a very unbalanced system you spent way too much money on GPU. The VRMS on that motherboard probably weak(that’s the power that the motherboard can supply the components). For under $2000 you can probably get on the newer AM5 system and at least you’ll have an upgrade path for the future without having to scrap the whole computer and starting again. I mean if you want to build that go right ahead I’m just trying to warn you kinda throwing your money in the wrong places

here this is something I just threw together quick and it would walk all over the computer you’re thinking of building. Like I said I don’t want you to take it in the wrong way I hate to have you waste your money. and you can get windows for a lot cheaper than that. I’ll come back later when I have some more time and together we can put together a better system for the money for you

As @Viraco kida said, you’re system is imbalanced. Here’s what I think is a good build for 2k:

It has a 9600x 32gb of ram and rtx 5070. And I was able to squeeze in a monitor too. But here’s another list:

It’s the same list but I removed the monitor and gave it a 7800x3d which should set you up for a few years. And if you’re willing to spend more than you could go with a 9800x3d to guarantee that you’ll be future proofed. Hope this helps!

One question I want you to answer is what your actual budget, what are you going to be using the computer for mostly and what expectations they have?

here is something close to my own personal set up and it can run anything out there and comes in less than what you got. Spending $1000 on a 5070 TI is crazy they’re not worth it. They’re only going up in price because Nvidia is all about killing production on consumer cards so stock is getting low and driving the price up. Check out the times by score on your bill and this one. This one’s significantly higher for less money. If Gaming is your primary use you definitely want an X3D CPU. You don’t need a 9800 X3D They’re overpriced and only 10% to 15% faster.

Hi thank you! It’s mostly going to be used for gaming(a lot of VR) and streaming a little bit of context creation and school work but nothing to crazy my actual budget is sub 2000$ so anything under that number is fine but I’m willing to go a little bit over for performance

The second build that I showed you for like $1800 it’s very close to my own and I play everything on high settings with Ray tracing on and have no issues. At 100+ frames per second. as far as the case goes, cases are subjective so I just kinda put one in there as a placeholder just to show you though you can get under $2000 with good performance.

as far as the windows key your best bet is to download the free version of Windows 11 and then go on a reputable website and buy a Windows key for $50 or less

I actually like the second one you put together as far as the cooling goes would you recommend the liquid cooler you get with the deal or is there another you recommend also the only real reason I was getting the 5070 is because they give RE for free so if you say they AMD is better then I trust your opinions

The only other thing if possible I would like to keep the 32 ram just because I will be streaming vr and I know it would help in the long run

right now the 7800 X3dcomes with a 240 liquid cooler for free. I have a 240 on mine and it works just fine

Good catch on the memory — I wasn’t paying attention to the size.

You can try either one of these. It’ll put you just past $2,000 unfortunately. Memory prices are crazy right now, but you may be able to find something on sale. I didn’t look too hard for bundles or Amazon deals. If you source parts from different places, you can probably get the price down a bit.

What you want to make sure of is that the RAM is EXPO compatible so you can turn that on in the BIOS and get the full 6000 MHz. You’ll also want a CL rating anywhere from 30 to 36. You can go a little higher with an X3D chip — the extra cache helps make up for a slightly higher CL rating and can save you a few bucks.

Honestly though, you might as well spend a couple hundred dollars more now rather than building on AM4. This build would absolutely crush that. And when the last AM5 X3D chip comes out in a couple years, you can probably just swap the processor and be good for a few more years after that instead of building a whole new system again.

If you can spend a little more now, you’ll save a lot in the future.

Use this list as your blueprint, but shop around and see what deals you can find.

Another tip: when you’re shopping for 9070 XTs, don’t buy an upgraded model. They all perform pretty much the same. If it fits the aesthetics of your build and it’s priced well, buy it. One isn’t really much faster than another — maybe a few frames per second at most.

As you find parts you’re considering, feel free to check back and we can go over whether they’re worth the money.

I’m not saying AMD is better because there are some features on the Nvidia GPU’s Like DLSS4 that are better. What I will tell you is that GPU is not worth $1000! :exploding_head:
If anybody tells you that it is they have fallen into the marketing trap. quite honestly you’ll be happy with a 9070xt. here is example right now I’m playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Everything’s on ultra settings with raytracing on using FSR4 no frame gen and I’m getting 115 frames a second with ease. It looks phenomenal.

I’m sure that cooler is fine the 7800x3d Doesn’t run very hot. I use a cheap $80 ID AIO because it was r ecommended on gamers Nexus a while backand I don’t have any issues.

@user8894 Welcome in to the Newegg Gamer Community.

What specific games do you plan to play in VR?
You say “a little bit of content creation” … What do you mean by that? Will you do live streams on YouTube or Twitch? Will you record your gameplay and make clips?
The market pricing is extremely restrictive right now for what you can get for $2000 or less - does this need to include a monitor, peripherals, etc? Or is this the budget just for your tower?

Overall, Viraco is correct that Socket AM5 is highly preferable due to the upgrade path, but no single build can have it all right now with current market pricing. So depending upon your answers to the above questions, that will shape the way this will go.
