What are the levels to GPUs?
Im new to pc building. But i want to know what i can get away with without any issues.
I would say like 800 for a gpu. Pls help
What do you mean by ālevels to GPUā? Can you explain? Do you mean like 5060 vs 5060 ti? There are plenty of charts you can look at.
so it kind of goes like this
Nvidia makes a series for each generation of GPU
Such as 3000 4000 5000
Within each generation or series, thereās a class of GPU. 50, 60, 70, 80, 90. Obviously 50 is entry level in 90s is the top-of-the-line. Iād stay away from any 50 class cards and Nvidia doesnāt even make them every generation. If you see a TI at the end of the number, I believe itās Nvidia making the card a little bit better with more memory or some kind of refresh. I havenāt bought Nvidia in years, so Iām not sure on that one.
AMD does something similar. so their generation something like 6000 7000 8000 9000. Although the 9000 series now has new names that more closely resemble Nvidiaās. Because of AMD reasons.
Their class of cards is a little different so it would go something like 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900. If you see an XT tacked onto the number with AMD itās usually a higher clock speed version of that card or more memory. Sometimes theyāll do like a 6950 which is just a mid generation refresh, which means it a little bit faster but not much. AMD gets a little complicated. Basically the more Xās in the name, the better the card. (thatās an inside joke for Gamers Nexus watchers).
as someone new to building, donāt even bother with Intel GPU yet.
Probably an Nvidia RTX 5070(ti) is around your budget it sounds like. @Viraco summed it up pretty nicely.
The āThousandā number tells you what year the GPU released and how modern it is.
The āTenā number tells you what tier the GPU is. Like 5060 is the entry level, 5070, is the mid tier, and the 5080, is the high tier.
iāve never really understood amd naming schemes, but i see that it mimics a bit of nvidia from your post.
Do you think a 3090 pc is good for 1.4k?
So i feel like viraco explained it pretty good. But i mean as levels to it.
Ranking. There canāt be 2 āFirst Placeā in a race.
Like Snap-on compared to autozone.
well there can be two first placed cards like elaniselan said. you see from generation to generation there may not be much of a performance jump. Example a 4080 from 2 years ago might only be 10% slower than a 5080. But the 5080 might do it with less power and be more efficiant or have some new feature.
(Side bar: this is not the case this go around. It is the big debate among gamers right now and is why alot of people are pissed with Nvidia. This is for another thread though.)
So alot of people skip a generation or two because your paying big bucks for not much of a gain in the same class of card.
