Repasted 6950xt due to hot spot.

         FyI this was refurbished.

I’m excited due to getting done with a gpu thermal pad adjustment and repaste on my 6950xt. I was having hot spot issues never got to the 110 while gaming, but high 90s to 105c in some games while having 65c gpu temps. So I got my tools out took this beast apart and noticed loose screws everywhere. The thermal paste seemed fine, but the thermal pads was not making contact with heatsink on a two chips and one row of thermal pads was only coverd 3/4 of a row of chips. So cleaned it up and layed the thermal pads much better and repasted with some Frost x45. WOW!!! Played same games I had issues in gave plenty of time to heat soak and 57c max with 77c hot spot. So so worth it. The idles moved from 33 35 to 28 29c. In the pics I took I had one thermal pad row kinda of off ,but I fixed before assembly. I just didn’t get a pic rushing and wanted to get it back together. Most pics are useless but wanted to show the unders.

Na not at all bro. Few screws, fan connectors, clean up throw the pads and paste back down. Screw back together took me bout 45 min to an hour and I sat and looked at it awhile lmao.

You totally could do it man. Seems way scarier than it is. As long as you’re patient and make sure all screws an connectors are out and loose. Don’t drop it  hugely beneficial tho.
