Should I downgrade?

When I first built my first PC about a year ago, I built it with an i7-12700k, a 3060 12 gb, and 32 gb DDR5 6000 mh/z. I also got a 1200w PSU in hopes of someday upgrading. I now have 4070 and 2 monitors. I was wondering if I should get something closer to a 1000w or 850w PSU. Let me know.

You don’t need to downgrade, the only time that you should upgrade your psu because it is old is if it’s over about 10 years old. So no, don’t downgrade your psu because it’s old. And if you’re unsure that I’m telling the truth, I’ve had the same psu for about 5-6 years before I completely changed systems. AND I know someone that had a psu for a little longer than me and his pc is still running. Plus someone HERE was asking if he should change out his psu after almost 15 years of use. And you can run even a 5070ti with a 1200w psu (easily!), just make sure your using a 12v hpw connector if available. And if it was a modular psu and you threw away the extra cables than maybe you could consider getting a new psu. Just if you can, don’t downgrade if you get a new psu.

Yeah I would say over 1000w because it’s good for future proofing your PC.
