Spotlight: My 1st Ever Build - Q&A

We’ve seen our fair share of first-time builds, but nothing quite like this. u/Extension-Ebb-2064 from Reddit created this incredible system as his first build ever, so we had to get more info about it.

Q: This is one of the most extravagant PCs we’ve seen. Is this really your first PC build?
A: Yes, this is my first ever PC build. I didn’t know anything about PC building prior.

Q: What inspired the theme?
A: I love Star Trek. This build is themed after a starship from Star Trek called a “Borg Cube.” Specifically, an artifact of a Cube from the series Star Trek: Picard. Finding this case actually started this journey for me. I worked a lot of OT so this was an Xmas gift to myself.

Q: What was your goal for the build?
A: To go all out for my first build, and not have to upgrade for many years.

Q: What parts did you use?
PC
Borg Cube (case)
ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero (motherboard)
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D (CPU)
Noctua NH-D15 (cooler)
128GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB DDR5 2x 64GB (memory)
Samsung 990 Pro 4TB M.2 (storage)
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 (storage)
ZOTAC GeForce RTX 4090 Trinity OC (GPU)
ASUS ROG Thor 1200W Platinum II (PSU)
Peripherals
Samsung G9 Odyssey (monitor)
Roccat Vulcan II Max (keyboard)
Razer Viper V3 Pro (mouse)

Q: How did you learn how to build this PC?
A: I knew nothing about PC building, so I spent hours on YouTube and Reddit learning compatibility and assembly. I started with pro build videos, then found a few using this exact case.

Q: Dimensions?
A: 15" x 15" x 15"

Q: How’s the airflow?
A: It has 3 intakes and 3 exhausts, and the case itself is full of little holes to allow movement.

Q: How are the temps?
A: I ran an hour-long stress test via OCCT. Temps are stable on max settings.
CPU: max 80°C, average 67.6°C
GPU: max 54°C, average 52°C

Q: Can you adjust the lighting?
A: Yes, the lights are ARGB and customizable.

Q: Anything you don’t like about the case?
A: One downfall is that it has no external ports. I have to connect everything on the back or directly onto the motherboard.

Q: How much was the case?
A: About $600

Q: How much did you spend overall?
A: About $4,000

Q: Where did you get the case?
Star Trek: Picard Borg Cube ATX - Star Trek PC - Cherry Tree

From Newegg: It’s truly an incredible build. Congratulations and well done!

Dude, this looks so cool!

This reminds me of the Vex from Destiny

Can we see the inside? Or the entire set up with your peripherals too?

There are normally USB ports on the side of cases. But for this I would just be jamming it into its geometric shape.
