System Won’t enable XMP

I’ve tried multiple attempts to enable XMP profile 1 and it won’t save to bios settings

We should be able to help. Could you provide:

-Motherboard make and model
-CPU model
-RAM make and model (or the part number from the sticks or box)
-BIOS version
A screenshot (or photo) of the BIOS page where you’re enabling XMP

Also, when you save and exit:

Does the BIOS immediately revert XMP to Disabled?
Does the PC reboot a few times and then reset the memory settings?
Or does it simply refuse to save at all?

I’ll go to advanced settings and set Xmp to Xmp profile 1 6000 and press f10 to save and once I go into task manager it has reverted back to 4800

Your hardware should be capable of running 6000 MT/s, so I don’t immediately think it’s a compatibility issue. Before we start changing settings, I’d like to narrow down exactly where the problem is occurring.

After you enable XMP, press F10, and the computer reboots, go back into the BIOS before booting into Windows. Is XMP still enabled there, or has it already reverted back to Disabled?

The reason I ask is because it tells us where the problem is:

If the BIOS still shows XMP enabled, then Windows or Task Manager may simply be reporting the speed incorrectly, and we can verify it with another utility like CPU-Z.
If the BIOS has already turned XMP back off, then we know the motherboard isn’t accepting the setting, and we can focus on the BIOS or memory configuration instead.

Also, could you check a few things?

Are the RAM sticks installed in the A2 and B2 slots (the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU)?
Have you tried loading Optimized Defaults, saving, then enabling only XMP with no other BIOS changes?
Is BIOS version 7E06vAJ the latest available for your motherboard?

The version is the latest for my motherboard. The ram sticks are in a2 and b2, I have already tried default settings and then enabling Xmp and it did not work. So I tried enabling it and booting back into bios before windows and it still disables it.

Thanks for trying that. That rules out a couple of the more common causes.

Since it’s disabling XMP before Windows even loads, it sounds like the BIOS is rejecting the memory settings during training instead of Windows just reporting the wrong speed.

At this point, I’d be curious whether that exact TeamGroup kit is on MSI’s memory compatibility list for your board. I’d also like to see a picture of the BIOS page after you enable XMP but before you press F10. That would show exactly what frequency, timings, and DRAM voltage it’s trying to apply.

One other thing I’d try is leaving XMP disabled and manually setting the memory speed to 5600 MT/s while leaving everything else on Auto. If that works, it would point toward the board having trouble training at 6000 MT/s rather than a bad RAM stick or something more serious.

I don’t think you’re overlooking anything obvious. At this point we’re just trying to isolate what’s causing the BIOS to reject the XMP profile instead of throwing random fixes at it.

How about the Firmware updates did install those also?
Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware version ME_16.1.40.2765 is a critical update for many MSI Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards (such as the PRO Z790-P).

I will look into the firmware updates thank you, and as for manually trying to set the speed at 5600 I have tried as well and it didn’t work I have also tried setting DRAM voltage a bit higher and same thing. And as for the picture I’m currently away from home so as soon as I’m able to I will send the picture sorry🥲
