what's the fastest RAM speed you can use with your motherboard?

is it limited to your motherboard or cpu?
i found this ram for 7200 MT/S but like… :eyes: kinda worried about compatibility

Someone else asked a similar question recently, so I did a little research because I wasnt sure myself. Anyway, I guess its 6000 is still the sweetspot for stability on am5 builds. Somthing to do with memory controllers (whatever that is). A lower latency is still the key.

The motherboard can support up to whatever high speed, but the cpus are limited to like 5600, at least that is what the 9600x says. But I use 6000 cl30. Anything higher seems like a waste of money.

Yeah I have no idea when ddr6 is coming out.

DDR6 is the works no official release date yet. Remember case latency plays a part in it also & capacity of the ram. DDR5 6000 CL 30 or 6400 CL 32 are the most used/recommended for AMD Infinity Fabric

The formula used to calculate the true latency in nanoseconds is:
True Latency (ns): To assess the actual responsiveness of the memory (rather than just the number of cycles), “true latency” is calculated in nanoseconds (ns) using the following formula:True Latency (ns) = (CAS Latency * 2000) / Transfer Rate (MT/s)
For example, a DDR5-6000 CL30 kit would have a true latency of: (30 * 2000) / 6000 = 10 ns.

Basically it connects all the cores, chiplets, caches, memory controllers, and integrated GPUs and big part of AMDs success and still used in Ryzen & Threadripper CPUs today
