good performance, OK price, drivers are a bit of a mess right now 10/27/2019 11:54:04 AM

Pros: It's great for 1440p, maybe even 4k. Easily runs a lot of games at high or very high, 1440, at well over 60fps. I really like the smoothness of 144hz displays so this card performs well for what I want.

Cons: The drivers that have been available since I got this card have been rough. Games will "run" but only display a black screen sometimes; as far as I can tell, the only workaround right now is to reboot my computer and start again. (The problem gets worse after my computer has been on for a long time or I have started and stopped multiple games.) Heat output (and presumably power consumption) are a little high. (Temperatures might seem high, but that's only because this card measures it differently compared to previous generations. According to AMD it measures temps at the hottest parts of the card in order to give a more useful reading.)

Overall Review: It's fairly good and I will probably be satisfied in a few months when AMD straightens out their driver issues.

Good product for water cooling 9/27/2019 9:11:30 AM

Pros: Perfect if you put it on water.

Cons: Stock cooler is loud and doesn't cool well, like all reference models.

If you adjust the fan to make it quieter, it will throttle, again like all reference models.

Overall Review: Great of you put a water block on it. Otherwise just wait for the three fan model to be in stock.

Took a Few Days 9/24/2019 10:38:19 AM

Pros: - Not as loud as others have said (imo)
- Blower Fan does a good job of keeping it cool (requires custom configuration)
- Good Price Point compared to competitors
- Sleek Style with a red theme build

Cons: - This was a pain in the backside to get working right.

Overall Review: Okay,

Bear with me as this was my first ever build, which is funny because I've worked in IT all my life.

Gigabyte RX5700XT
2700X
MSI x470

Once I had the computer, I did a clean install of windows. and let windows select the drivers. Boom, lots of issues.

Updated motherboard, bios update and that's good to go. Run DDU to uninstall all Radeon drivers.

Problems I had with windows driver.
- No signal on Monitor 1on boot or randomly during crash. After crash it had a 50% chance of coming back on.
- Random Blue Screens. Really just random.
- Every game would boot, crash and sometimes it would get me to the main screen. if it did, the next advancement in the menu would blue screen.
- Particles on the left column of screen would be rgb and pixelated to hell. But only for particles, not for objects or 3d renders.

After I did DDU, I then downloaded the latest Radeon driver package. That still left these issues to tackle.

- No signal on Monitor 1on boot or randomly during crash. After crash it had a 50% chance of coming back on.
- Games would randomly crash. You could be in a game, click something. Then crash. System would not crash so there's progress!

So now I have to figure these two things out. I had a hunch to use a different DisplayPort so I decided to use port 2. That seems to have fixed the No signal. I now have it back in port 4 and have not had an issue with losing power to the monitor.

Games randomly crashing include.
Wow Classic, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Rocket League.

I went into settings because at that time everything was default. I played around with the free sync and turned that off.

Right now I have every game at max settings running around 144 fps. about 100fps in background where it allows.

It rarely dips, sometimes in Rocket league.

Then I noticed it was sitting around 84 celsius in the game menu with the fan RPM at 1400. WHAT

no no no, I went into wattman settings. The Fans are not set to get higher than 40% at dangerous temps? uhhhh what?

Set it to 20% at <35c and honestly it barely makes noise. 25% at 50c and 40% at 60c and keep gradually increasing to 90% at crazy high temps.

It typically is within 45 and 55 degrees. When it hits that 50c mark you hear it click to speed and within a minute it's back down.

I have run Fortnite and Wow Classic simultaneously and this thing didn't even hiccup. Seamlessly witches between programs and games without lagging.

Honestly, I think this is a great card once you figure out the issues you're having. Remember, the software is still in it adolescence. It will get there.

Good product from AMD 9/1/2019 10:02:27 AM

Pros: I was holding out on a good video card for a while, since 2012. My previous card was 2gig NVIDIA GTX 9600. I initial was leaning toward a NVIDIA but those prices were 2 high for my liking and after the china trade war they even went higher. Once AMD released this new card I was honestly sold, a underdog and a reasonably priced card.

Cons: -Hot, card hits 80c. I will have to look at aftermarket cooling solutions once they become available for this hardware. I could care less for the temp but it's causing the games to crash.
-Fan doesn't spin past 50% at full load, have to find a 3rd party solution to bypass the limit switch on that.
-Free 3 month gift to xbox for pc thingy, not my forte, i would rather have had a choice of a game from lets say like a pool of 3.
-Driver software is bland, slow response for the game tab they should just abandon the game tab option and concentrate of driver optimization.

Overall Review: I don't mind AMD or NVIDIA but it seems to me that if you purchase a NVIDIA you are not just buying their hardware you are also paying for the name, just like apple.

BAD GPU, NO SUPPORT FROM GIGABYTE 8/12/2019 11:46:35 AM

Pros: It can access windows......

Cons: First of all I want to specify that Gigabyte offer one of the worse technical support ever.
▪︎They do NOT have chat support,
▪︎do not even think using their email support cause 2 weeks after my innitial support request they were still asking me if I had the latest driver installed. And they tend to answer with a minimum of 3 days only to ask one question at a time
▪︎PHONE SUPPORT..... well I waited 40 minute On the line and never got a person to speak.

The first card was having huge temperature spike making the card throttling having temperature over 100 degree with fan running at 70%. After 2 weeks of no help at all from Gigabyte, i still was stupid enough to still give a try and asked newegg for a replacement. The other card was working fine this time for a big week! After 1 week i started having artefact when i was playing. This time I decided it was enough and returned the card and I have bought instead an rtx 2060 super. Everything work perfectly fine now!

Overall Review: WAIT FOR NON REFERENCE CARD SOLD BY ANYONE EXCEPT GIGABYTE!

Great Value, Not so great cooling. 8/10/2019 8:21:45 PM

Overall Review: Pro's
-It's fast, runs everything maxed out at 1080 in the hundreds of fps. Will be getting a 1440p now to test.
-Improved my VR experience on my Odyssey+.
-No driver issues that i have found.
-Excellent benchmark scores.

Con's
-Is this cooler a joke? no really.
-When i say this thing gets hot, I have concerns of the paint melting off.
-Joke of a cooler was rather loud, but not as bad as people said.

So i upgraded from a r480, Big improvement over all. I was looking to upgrade because i picked up an Odyssey+ VR headset and the 480 was the min to run it. The value AMD provides with the 5700xt beats Nvidia hands down. While it is a mid tier card, it is more than sufficient without the gimmick called RTX. I waited for the gigabyte version just because all the other parts of the build are gigabyte. When it arrived i popped it in and ran a burn in test. Had some shuddering in a few games and was very unimpressed with the cooling performance. But i bought an ekwb water block and shipped it from the UK for this this computer to be open loop with a 480 Alpha Cool rad.
When i removed the stock cooler, i asked my self if this was a joke. Not nearly enough cooling for such a hot card with only half the card covered in heat sync. After the water block was installed and filled with coolant, i fired it up. That is when i was impressed with this card. Give it the cooling it needs, and it shines. Temps dropped about 20 degrees on burn in test, no shuddering at all. When i ran my original burn in test, reached about 85c with spikes to 90c. The back plate got so hot i could fry an egg on it. Post water block, she sits about 63c max burn in with a few spikes to 67c. Back plate is no warmer than the coolant. Boost clock sat around 1750 with stock, 1965 with water. Knocked an egg for this joke of a cooler it comes with, when custom coolers come out, will see a huge increase in performance.

Good card with great performance, AMD needs to pay attention to cooling! 8/1/2019 8:41:46 AM

Pros: - Great performing card, visuals are awesome and frames per second relatively high and smooth
- Freesync 2 support is rock solid and works advertised. I hate the trendy phrase "Game Changer" but HDR is a game changer. It turns Battlefield 5 into a new game. Freesync eliminates visual tears and such.
- AMD includes great customization tools inside their drivers so you can over/under clock the GPU and voltage while also allowing adjustment of fan speeds (see below in cons for more on this). It's amazing how far AMD has come in their drivers. They used to be garbage. In the past 2-3 years, they have gotten a LOT better. They may well be better than Nvidia's particularly when you add in the powerful customization you can do through the included Wattman tool. Nice stuff AMD, nice.
- Priced right.

Cons: - Card runs hot out of the box as per every review on the 'net. Mine was mid 80's at one point, perhaps even pushing 90C. The fan is whisper quite out of the box which is normally a good thing. In retrospect, AMD should've done some more work on the fan curve so the fan would ramp up and down appropriately with the temps. Their stock fan profile is way to conservative. Luckily AMD's [excellent] driver includes tools to tweak the card. Using Wattman inside the drivers, I was able to set my own fan curve. The GPU temps stay in the low 60s now. Prior to making fan changes, my system was slightly unstable and I would see some texture degradation in games. Adjusting the fan speeds to keep the GPU temps under control resolved these two issues for me and now my system is awesome.
- Since the fan is now running faster to keep the GPU cool, the system is louder. It's not as bad as the Vega 64 before it, but its bad.

Overall Review: It's a shame out of the box AMD didn't have their fan and GPU temps under control. Give this card a cooling solution which doesn't sound like a rocket taking off to the moon while keeping the GPU temps under control and keeping its respectable price and awesome drivers, you would have great card and I would give it five stars. Instead, AMD’s timid out of the box fan curve with the noise coming from increased fan speed to handle the heat knocks the score down to four. If you are looking at this card but can wait, do so. Perhaps the aftermarket cards will have better cooling solutions which would make this GPU rock!

Junk GPU and Drivers 7/23/2019 7:41:32 PM

Pros: Powered on

Cons: Crashes PC on most games even with each iteration of drivers they release
Other games just start up with a fuchsia color
Runs hot

Overall Review: Would not recommend, lots of others on the forum having similar issues with no support from AMD
