it doesn't support LTE 12 which is suppose to be considered the future high speed band for tmobile. but if you are happy with the current LTE speeds of your phone you should be happy with this phones LTE speeds. I myself am planning to buy it and did some research. But my reasoning is driven mainly by the size of phone and battery life. Performance wise the phone is comparable. it's strong enough to handle all the apps. battery though is phenomenal based on the size of it. So this is great for travelling, working in the field for long hours or even days. You can really stretch the battery on this phone it seems.  based on a few reviews i read. the software from asus, the skin though i read is a bit clunky. but then again I can't say i love the default google interface or the samsung galaxy version.. ehh.

The protruding back camera lens on the Zenfone 2 models caused them to be scratched easily, and this phone's back camera seems to be protruding even more? Why is this??

No phone is really waterproof unless you get a special case designed to do just that. Most modern phones are water-resistant which means a few splashes of water near a sink is safe. Plus this phone doesn't even mention if it is water resistant or not. So if you're not gonna have this phone near water, then it's a great buy.
