Will this function on a USB 2.0 port?

Yes, this is backward compatible to 2.0. But if your computer is a bit older and uses only 2.0 I would suggest you buy an adaptor that has 4 USB ports that uses 3.0 because the transfer speed of the 3.0 is lightning fast ... well worth the investment.

how do I remove the plastic cover? It is stuck on hard.

If you really want to remove it just pull it beyond its stops as if you are opening for use.
The downside is that you USB device will have absolutely zero protection, rather than the limited protection it enjoys with the slider cover.

Question 4

I slid back the cover to deploy the USB connector. How do I retract the cover to protect the connection? It seems there is a little ledge inside that keeps it from closing.

I'm guessing that an industrial product designer got the size specs for the plastic housing just a tad too tight. If you're careful, you should be able to slide that cover back over the little plastic bump (it will work more easily over time as it slooowly wears down).

Hint: for things like this, I've often found that the application of a little bit of paraffin wax to be very helpful. Bar soap, or candle wax would do, too. Do not use a liquid lubricant, of course!

Wrong specs still shown?

This drive's specs are still wrong despite having told Newegg they were two weeks ago. The actual read/write speeds for this 32GB model are:

"32GB: up to 90MB/s read and 45MB/s write"

That's straight from PNY's website. I'd provide a link, but Newegg's Q&A doesn't permit it.

With this model on today's (12/31/13) Shell Shocker, I thought potential buyers should know its actual rated speed.

The specs are wrong, however the speed is still superior to the usual USB 2.0 jump drives.
