Monster of a 580

Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E Dual HDMI / DVI-D / Dual DP w/ Backplate (UEFI), 100411NT+8GL
Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E Dual HDMI / DVI-D / Dual DP w/ Backplate (UEFI), 100411NT+8GL

Pros: I got this for $250 with the AMD gift of AC Odyssey plus two other upcoming games. Userbenchmark shows this as performing on the higher end of 580s and even a little faster than your average 1060. Absolutely chews through everything I've thrown at it at 1080p Default cooling has kept it around 60c under heavy load (a particularly badly optimized bit of one of my games that everyone gets huge framerate drops on), normally doesn't get above mid-50s Cool RGB logo

Cons: It's huge. The card sags a bit, I'm looking for something to prop it up with. The teeth didn't fit into the slot at the back of my case (NZXT S340) but I was having some trouble with that on my last graphics card too, I think it may be the case. This probably doesn't help with the sag. It ate all the graphics power connectors my power supply comes with (8+6). Not a huge problem but if you're getting multiples you'll need enough connectors to feed them. All the customization has to be done through the Sapphire TRIXX software. If you don't have an optical drive for the setup CD, this is not obvious at all,and finding it took a bit of work.

Overall Review: The card came with the logo shining bright blue. My setup is all red. I was able to fix it once I got the Sapphire software, but it now says "SAPPHIRE" in red. I guess it's a Ruby card now.

Most Critical Review

Not even sure where this went wrong; the fans weren't attached to the card

PowerColor Radeon RX 580 DirectX 12 AXRX 580 8GBD5-DMV3 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Cryptocurrency Video Card
PowerColor Radeon RX 580 DirectX 12 AXRX 580 8GBD5-DMV3 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Cryptocurrency Video Card

Pros: 8GB RX 580 for $200. Enough said. Ran my games just beautifully until things went wrong. For fifteen minutes, I had a pretty darn nice graphics card.

Cons: - Only one DVI port, but I was planning for that. I have limited desk space and one 1080p monitor I got super cheap, so single DVI did me fine. - This was not advertised as a mining card when I bought it. When I looked back at my order a few days later, "Cryptocurrency Video Card" had been added to the description. Again, okay; I knew about the single DVI port and it's still an RX 580. Here's where things get hairy: - The fans didn't work. Let me repeat that. The fans DIDN'T WORK. They weren't even attached to the fan shafts, they were just held in place because motors are full of permanent magnets. I discovered this while doing a test run on a game, and only because I happened to look at my shiny new graphics card to notice the fans weren't spinning at all on the most demanding thing I run. Trying to unstick them with my fingers (in case they were just stuck because they'd never been run before or something) caused them to start vibrating and making a broken chainsaw noise, so the motors were clearly TRYING to run and cool my overheating card. This is not normal broken product; I'm not even sure how this could have happened before or during shipping. The card hit 84 degrees and I quickly shut my system down and pulled it out to return.

Overall Review: I RMA'd the card. Newegg got it and said they'd send a replacement, then a few hours later I got another email saying they were no longer carrying it and were just going to refund my money. I'm not going to be able to replace this card for what I paid; the best I'm likely to get is a step down with half the VRAM. From the brief flash of availability to the change in item description, it half feels like a scam.

Good sound, clear microphone

SteelSeries Siberia V2 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Full-size Headset - Red
SteelSeries Siberia V2 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Full-size Headset - Red

Pros: - The sound through these headphones is great. I don't like listening to music on my cheap speakers because they don't have very good range, but these are nice and clear. - The microphone hides and slides out easily, is easy to move, and is far clearer than the microphone on my last headset. Everyone has been telling me "I can hear you now!" - The material covering the earphones feels about twice as thick as my old headset, which is nice since that was the first thing to wear out on my old one.

Cons: - While nice, the cord volume/microphone control sits farther down the cord than I'd like (at waist height). It catches on my armrest pretty frequently when I move around. If it were a foot or so higher (putting it at chest height), that wouldn't be an issue.

Overall Review: - If the on-cord controls were higher up so they didn't catch on my chair, I think I'd rate this 5 eggs. If anyone from SteelSeries is reading this, that's my recommendation.

Easy setup, has tripod

TROPRO Tw8 Webcam with Microphone, 1080P Full HD Computer Camera for PC with Cover, Expandable Tripod, USB Web Camera with Cover for Video Calls, Streaming, Skype, Zoom, Teleconference
TROPRO Tw8 Webcam with Microphone, 1080P Full HD Computer Camera for PC with Cover, Expandable Tripod, USB Web Camera with Cover for Video Calls, Streaming, Skype, Zoom, Teleconference

Pros: - Plugged it in and it installed, no fuss necessary - Comes with a tripod so I don't have to install it on my wobbly monitor - Privacy flap is a must-have - Camera and mic seem to work fine - Green light tells you when camera is recording

Cons: - Tripod has plastic tips instead of rubber, so it will move if touched - The green light is a little bright, and it has a red light that doesn't turn off - When installed on my thin-bezel monitor, the clip extends about 3mm (1/8') over the screen

Overall Review: - The image seems a little grainy, but that could just be poor lighting on my end. - You can tell you're lined up in the camera's center when the LEDs shine directly into your eyes.

Nice 1440p monitor, stand isn't perfect

Acer KA272U biipx UM.HX2AA.004 27" QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 1ms VRB 75 Hz 2 x HDMI, DisplayPort AMD RADEON FreeSync Technology Gaming Monitor

Pros: - Works as advertised, haven't had any issues. No dead pixels, brightness and contrast are fine, FreeSync works, nice thin bezel.

Cons: - The stand isn't the sturdiest, and the monitor tends to wobble slightly when I type. With a heavier desk it might not be an issue.

Overall Review: Overall, it's a nice upgrade from my previous 1080p monitor at a decent price. No real complaints.

Had debouncing issues, no response from company

Nixeus REVEL REV-BK16 Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical Gaming Mouse
Nixeus REVEL REV-BK16 Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: - Feels nice in the hand, smooth movements, no complaints with how it worked out of the box - Loved the underglow effect on the lighting - Has the software customization you'd expect from a gaming mouse

Cons: - LMB developed a debouncing issue after about a month and a half, where it would double or triple click randomly when I clicked things (not good obviously). No software fix or reset did anything, and a mouse with LMB randomly double clicking just isn't usable for everyday stuff.

Overall Review: Tried to return with Newegg, they said to go to Nixeus. Contacted Nixeus through their support system and just never got any response, even after putting in another ticket after a month. Ended up throwing the mouse away and getting a Corsair. I liked the mouse, but I wouldn't risk getting another one.

The package was slightly damaged but it was only cosmetic - the corners and everything were fine. I'd looked up some reviews for the case I bought and there were some complaints about the bottom dust filter, but the one I bought had a better filter on it so all is good. No complaints at all with the case so far.
