Chromax Black Swap NF-F12 - Same Noctua Quality but with color!
Pros: - Color choices, of course (blue, green, yellow, red, black, white) - Extremely quiet - Excellent cooling performance
Cons: Some might find this a con, so I thought I should mention it. Only enough same color corners for one side of fan. But I don't find this to be a problem at all - I used all blue corners on one side of my fans (the side that shows) and black on the other.
Overall Review: Would definitely recommend this colorful choice of Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans. I will be purchasing more when I have the need for future builds. I currently use two of these as replacement fans in my AIO liquid cooler and they're very quite and keep my new Core i7 8700k in the 35c temp range at idle, stock speed - not overclocked yet. But fully expect temps to not increase too much with a minor overclock. These Chromax fans are a little different than the original Noctua NF-F12s: 1) they do not come with speed limiting low noise adapter cables, but with being able to set fan speeds in the BIOS, not really necessary when they are already very quiet; 2) the cable from the Chromax fan that connects to the extension cable is really close to the fan housing (not so with the original Noctua NF-F12) - not a problem for me, but some might feel differently. The choice of colors and same Noctua quality make these fans well worth the small additional cost, in my opinion. Thank you, Noctua, for giving us a color choice!
Can Trust ASUS, right?
Pros: Works great reading CDs!
Cons: Will NOT read ANY DVDs at all! I've set the region to 1 and made sure there were no conflicts with other devices. It will show the contents on disk but when I try to open the video folder I get this: "VIDEO_TS refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." WHAT!? This is as a slave CD-ROM drive. My burner is a Plextor, which reads everything like it suppose to, but not the ASUS E616A3. Messages ASUS but not reply after 4 days - they are suppose to responses in 48 hours.
Overall Review: I never thought I would be writing a less than excellent review for an ASUS product. Their motherboards are fantastic and I've had CD-ROM drives from them before that worked flawlessly. This DVD-ROM simply does not like any DVDs, PERIOD. I gave this product 3 stars because I know this is perhaps just a bad one. ASUS products are usually very good.
Perfect for ASUS ROG Strix Hero III (G371GW) laptop RAM upgrade
Pros: --- Same DDR4 2666 RAM my daughter's ROG laptop had installed but twice the amount at 32GB, which actually makes doing things in Windows 11 just a tad faster; No need to worry about compatibility since setting XMP may or may not be available in some laptops. If XMP is not available (depends on the laptop motherboard maker) that expensive RAM will only run at DDR4 2666 anyway --- This G.SKILL pair runs at CL 18 instead of the tad slower CL 19 (most common). This means besides the benefits of increased capacity (32GB vs 16GB) which makes a computer run a tad faster, this G.SKILL pair runs even faster than standard DDR4 2666. --- Installation (for me) was easy once I got to the old RAM after disconnecting the battery and discharging any stored electricity by holding the power button down for 5 seconds. Removed old and installed new. Reconnected the battery and reattached the bottom cover and turned it on. Started right up. Perfect. (Don't know how to replace RAM in a laptop? An Internet search will give you sources for how.)
Cons: No cons whatsoever. This was a great purchase to make my daughter's laptop gaming experience even better.
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this G.SKILL 32GB pair for any laptop it is compatible with. All buyers should make sure that the laptop they have is compatible before buying. Most that take DDR4 2666 SODIMMs will be able to use this pair as long as the motherboard used allows more than 16GB and the RAM is NOT soldered onto the motherboard.
The MSI RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio 12GB is awesome!
Pros: * Installation was easy for me given my computer case and PSU * Very quiet -- fans engage only when certain temps reached * A bracket is included to prevent the weight of this GPU from sagging on one's motherboard * Noticeable screen redraw speed increase for me vs my former GTX 1080 Ti Excellent performance in games -- I can finally run max settings in my favorite and the details are amazingly clear. Even video streaming looks like 4k on my 35" curved 1440p monitor.
Cons: Not really cons but the buyer should be aware of two things: * Computer case: The GPU is huge -- be sure to check the dimensions to make certain it will fit (both length and width) * Power Supply: This GPU requires 3 8-pin VGA connectors and most PSUs should have them but better to check before buying. Also, a minimum 750 watt PSU is recommended
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this MSI GPU to anyone looking for an excellent RTX 3080 12GB GPU. At the time of this comment, prices have become reasonable again for RTX 3000 series cards and MSI has offered this particular card at an extremely competitive price. Both my MSI GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 1080 Ti 11GB cards have been excellent for me -- never an issue. I trust that my new MSI RTX 3080 12GB will perform extremely well, too.
Excellent 1TB NVMe SSD
Pros: - Flawless installation on a new Windows 10 Pro, i9-9900K build - Fast - Excellent price to performance compared to other high-performance brands
Overall Review: This Sabrent 1T NVMe SSD just worked perfectly. Well worth the money. I will buy again when I need another. Just an excellent NVMe.
16GB (2x8GB) Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 Laptop RAM
Pros: Works perfectly to add 16GB to my daughter's existing 8GB of RAM, giving her 24GB. Just one screw to open the back of the laptop and slip the RAM into two slots. It started up faster, and I checked to be sure with CPU-Z (free software available from the Internet) to see that all 24GB of RAM was available, and it is.
Cons: None whatsoever.
Overall Review: A very simple inexpensive upgrade for a faster laptop that must share RAM with integrated graphics on CPU.
SanDisk Ultra 1T SSD purchase from Adorama Camera
The purchase of the SanDisk Ulta 1T SSD could have been through NewEgg and I would not have noticed any difference. Adorama Camera handled my order as NewEgg would have done. The SSD was packaged well and arrived in my mailbox via USPS in a few days. I was able to track my order with ease. I did a preliminary test of the SSD by connecting it to a USB 3.0 port and it works just fine. I plan to clone the 1T SanDisk from the 1T HDD I'm currently using in my desktop. (I need the HDD for an old i7 computer I plan to give to my granddaughter.) I'm very pleased with this transaction, and would purchase again from Adorama Camera, should I have the need for one of their products in the future.
Excellent Bluetooth Adapter
I would recommend this WavLink Nano Bluetooth Adapter to anyone needing to pair a Bluetooth device to their desktop computer. I needed this adapter to pair my new Logitech K380 Bluetooth keyboard to it for use with my desktop, and it works flawlessly. My computer was not Bluetooth capable before this purchase, and my new keyboard doesn't ship with an adapter, since its primarily target audience is those with Bluetooth enabled devices, such owners of cellphones, tablets and laptops that already have Bluetooth built-in. It emits a very faint blue flashing light to show it is working. And at $7 (for me at purchase) to $9 each (now), very inexpensive way to bring Bluetooth to a computer that doesn't have it. Very happy with this little device.
