Most Favorable Review

Nice case. I use it for a NAS.

Fractal Design Node 804 Black Window Aluminum/Steel Micro ATX  Cube Computer Case
Fractal Design Node 804 Black Window Aluminum/Steel Micro ATX  Cube Computer Case

Pros: Great ventilation. Easy setup. Easy install. Great cable management. Several cooling options and fan / radiator placement.

Cons: Screws are tiny, can easily be mixed up when taking apart and reassembling. Especially when removing the two top rear screws that attach the top to the rear of the case. These screws are slightly longer than all the others. I missed this at first and was going nuts trying to get the small ones to fit.

Overall Review: My first case / computer build. Since I use this for a NAS, I have a lot of open space inside, especially on the windowed side. I currently have 4 WD reds in the thing and will expand soon. Case is rather large for a NAS. The case looks like it's really designed for a beefed up gaming system. Plenty of room for PCI expansions and huge video cards. But still a great case. I really recommend it for gamers. Side window will look awesome with LED's. Most Critical Review

Loud grinding sound coming from the water pump.

Cooler Master Seidon 120V - Compact All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Easy to install. Good price.

Cons: Loud grinding sound coming from the water pump when pump power connected directly to MB.

Overall Review: I am currently using this cooler inside a Fractal Design Node 804 case with an ASRock Mini ITX Server Motherboard to cool an Intel Xeon E3-1220V3 Haswell 3.1GHz processor. The board has a 4-pin Front Fan Connector and a 4-pin CPU Fan Connector. When I plug the water pump into the front fan connector, I get a loud grinding sound coming from the motor. Almost like it's being overloaded with power. Same thing when I plug the motor into the CPU Fan Connector. To get around this grinding sound, I had to plug the pump motor into the Fractal Design Node 804 case itself. Luckily, the case has a built in fan speed regulator switch (L,M & H). I set the speed to LOW and the grinding sound on the pump goes away. Switch it to Medium and the grinding sound comes back. Not a good solution since now I don't know for sure if the pump is getting the adequate power it needs to actually do it's job. I'm running FreeNAS OS so there's no CPU temp display I can look at, but I've been running this thing for 6 months now and the NAS seems to be OK. Since my server board has only one CPU fan connector, I'm thinking of switching to this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099. One fan, one wire, one connector. No more pump grinding and the board will tell the CPU to cool itself correctly. Guess my board was really designed for these kind of coolers. Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Good price point.

Cons: 1 of 4 of these drives was DOA.

Overall Review: I ordered 4 of these. 2 to start and then a month later, 2 more. On the second batch, one of them was DOA. Newegg promptly replaced it no questions asked. 4 of 5 eggs because of this, but once these things run, they run great. I still don't 100% trust HD's no matter how good they claim to be so I backup my entire NAS to external drives and power those down when the backups are finished. Pros: Small. Well built.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: I started out with a generic gas station special thumb drive to run my FreeNAS OS and boy was that a dumb idea. Got all kinds of BOOT errors, system errors, you name it. All a thing of the past now. I have 2 of these things mirrored running FreeNAS OS flawlessly. FreeNAS forums pointed me in the direction of these exact ones and I am glad I found them. First computer build. Nice power supply

Antec EA-750 PLATINUM 750 W 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Power Supply

Pros: Runs silent for me. Does the job well.

Cons: Could use more SATA connectors. I had to purchase some Molex to SATA Power Cable Adapters. No big deal.

Overall Review: My first computer build so can't really say how awesome it really is. But for my first power supply, I can say I have been pleased with it. Pros: Fantastic board. Great BIOS. Easy to install. Great instructions. Easy access to I/O ports.

Cons: Price

Overall Review: First let me start by saying this is my very first computer build. I wanted to build a NAS from scratch and did not want to go the route of QNAP or Synology. I wanted my own stuff inside a case of my choosing. So I decided to go way above and beyond for my board. Paired this with a Intel Xeon E3-1220V3 Haswell 3.1GHz processor and the thing rocks. I chose board because the reviews were good and it would serve my basic needs: Serving huge HD files to my HTPC's and transcoding these files to stream anywhere over the web. It does this exceptionally well without breaking a sweat. No A/V ports, but not needed for me since I use it as a NAS. Haven't played around with the IPMI port yet, but cool feature. I know I could have gotten away with a much cheaper board that would do the exact same thing, but I went with top of the line for my first NAS build. Works great with FreeNAS OS and fits nicely in my case.
