Newbie to SSD; I went to install this in a desktop I am building, but the power connector from the desktop power supply for SATA drives is smaller (data connector is fine). I thought SATA was SATA? Is there an adapter I am unaware of or a different format for desktops vs. say a laptop? Thanks

Desktop power supply connectors for SATA drives are the same size. The only time you would need an adaptor is if you are trying to use a traditional four pin power supply connector.

What is your experience with this drive? Would you use it as a primary drive? Thanks in advance.

My brother is a Dell authorized computer technician and this is the drive he told me to order for my computer. So yes I would recommend because he uses these in all of his computer revisits.

Will this run exclusively on 5v only or does it require 12v? I am trying to find a good SSD to put in an external USB3 enclosure.

I have used this with a SATA to USB adapter cable to plug into an external USB port. Eventually it was placed in my laptop. Everything ran on 5v.

Will his fit a mid 2012 MacBook Pro machine?

i have never owned any apple product; nor, will i ever! First you need to determine what type of HDD your Mac has now! If your mac comes with a 2.5" HDD; then either, a 2.5"or M.2 (with an adapter) SSD should work in your Mac!

Does this SSD have a DRAM cache?

There's nothing in the specs from Kingston that menttion DRAM cache.
