will it work on windows 7?

This 256GB works great on 7 machines. If you are going to be using large files, I recommend re-formatting it to NTFS. FAT32(default) has a limit of 4GB for any one, 'single' file.

How do I remove the cover so I can insert it into the USB port? Clear cover seems permanently attached.

The cover doesn't come off, it just slides back (although it is a bit hard to do at first - you'll need to use both hands). If you can't get it, you'll have to have someone help you. Good luck! :-) Matt

Is this compatible with USB 2.0?

Yes, I have an older computer with 2.0 and it works fine. Of course it does take a while to move large data chunks across a USB connection.

Does this have an activity light?

No activity light......I don't need one, when using it on my PC. On other devices, not having that feature, could be a problem.
