To be double sure. I can plug my Ethernet cable into the gadget and I will be able to connect to WiFi?

Sounds like you want a wireless router.  This is something you buy to extend wireless signal for weak areas in your house.  So this is about in the middle of my house to increase my wi-fi signal in the opposite corner away from my wireless router.  TP-link makes great wireless routers though as well.

Is it possible to disable the Ethernet port? For security reasons would be nice to have this port disabled in a work environment.

I don't think there is a way to disable it in software, but you could glue in an Ethernet plug into the socket.

Question 4

I have this and it worked with my old router, I could get the 5 g lite to come on, now I have a new router from Verizon and can only get 2.4 g light to come on, what could be issue?

There could be a number of reasons.  First, make sure that your new router is a dual-band router (not all 802.11n routers broadcast in the 5GHz range).  Also, make sure your range extender is set for dual-band vice single-band mode (Paragraph 4.4.4 of the manual) if you want both 2.4 and 5GHz bands to be extended.  Finally, make sure the router's 5GHz signal is strong enough at the wireless extender for the extender to pick it up reliably.  5GHz signals attenuate more quickly over long distances than 2.4GHz signals, resulting in reduced range vs 2.4GHz, so it is possible your extender is only picking up the 2.4GHz signal and the 5GHz signal is too weak where you have it placed.  If this is the case, try placing the extender closer to the router; the range extender broadcasts to a much wider field than most routers provided by the broadband providers (including my Verizon Quantum Router).

Will this get me a wifi signal to my pool area? (about 30-50 feet from house)

It all depends on where you plug this extender. Assuming that the extender is within the range of your wireless router, two of the main factors that may affect the signal are the distance of extender from the pool area and the number and type of walls between the extender and pool area.
The closer the extender is to the pool area, the better the signal.  As Paul R replied, the number of walls may also affect the signal strength. Also, walls that have wire mesh or metal can degrade the signals.

is it possible to hook this up with pubic guest wifi?

Accepted Answer

No, you have to be in control of the wireless signal to set up a range extender to work with it. In other words, if you are not the administrator over the signal, you can't setup the device to work with it.

can I use more than one of these extenders from one router?

Accepted Answer

I would think you can.  It pairs up using WPS with your router and was a cinch for me to set up.

I don't know. I only bought one of these and linking it to the wireless router was not an issue although, logoing into it was.

I've also noticed that although I bought the TP Link Archer, this range extender doesn't seem to have such a strong signal as I would like. It's plugged in to the wall directly behind my TV and there are lots of times that I experience lag when streaming YouTube from a mobile device to the TV whereas I never had the issue prior to this setup with a LinkSys router without a range extender. The LinkSys router was located in the same spot and I had only done the dd-wrt firmware change to it.

Hope this helps. Personally, I'd give the setup I have now 8 out of 10.

could you hook up a switch (5 or 8 port) to this? I've more than 1 wired device that would need hooking up via the ethernet port near it....

Yes.  I have it set up this way; basically it's acting as a wireless bridge between my switch on one side of the building and a wireless network on the other side.  Works really well.
