Most Critical Review

Made in 1ndia

Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB 8X with Branded Surface - 15pk Spindle
Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB 8X with Branded Surface - 15pk Spindle

Pros: They are decent dual layer media for some uses.

Cons: Their current batch sadly seems to be made in 1ndia*. This is not the product in the picture. This is the inferior product. Confirmed DRE, not working with a Hitachi drive. Stay away. If you can, go buy in a store where you can get a visual on the product. 1=I For some reason newegg considers 1ndia a naughty word.

Overall Review: Only ever buy the made in Singapore version. These are as junky as other brands as far as dual layer goes.

Orphans

Koutech IO-PSA421 PCI-X SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
Koutech IO-PSA421 PCI-X SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: Cheap PCI-X solution.

Cons: Keeps orphaning drives. I have 4x Intel 40g SSDs and in any configuration(Raid 0,10,5) it likes to orphan drives as soon as any load is put on the array such as benchmarking(Crystalmark,ATTO,etc.) or large file transfers. Before crashing, the sequential read speed of 2,3 or 4 drives is about half(90m/sec vs 200m/sec) of a single drive. I have tried all the drivers and software for the Silicon Image SII3124 from the past up until the current set.

Overall Review: I am running it on a rather antiquated HP G3 server, but our other raid arrays seem fine even when under similar load. it is running on its own PCI-X channel and seems to be able to handle one SSD fine. Oddly, while the benchmark runs, the random read(512k) is amazing(250m/sec+) but, as said before, the sequential drops to <100m/sec.
