Most Critical Review

Love the CPU but the shipping was a disaster

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X - Ryzen 9 9000 Series Granite Ridge (Zen 5) 16-Core 4.3 GHz - Socket AM5 170W - Radeon Graphics Processor - 100-100001277WOF

Pros: appears to be a great procesor

Cons: shipping the processor in an envelope mailer without protection is not the right way to go, NewEgg.

Overall Review: This was part of a larger order. The CPU was shipped separately. AMD does not use a large box for processors to save packaging. NewEgg dropped the box into a bubble lined manila envelope and shipped it via UPS. I don't know why they thought this would work. The box, interior plastic carrier, and part of the CPU plastic packaging was completely crushed. The processor itself appears to be ok but I'm not sure if I will have issues down the road due to high g shock during shipping. I expect a lot more shipping care for a high dollar CPU.

5 stars for the MB - zero for NewEgg

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO AMD X870E AM5 ATX motherboard, Advanced AI PC ready, 18+2+2 power stages, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, 5x M.2, Wi-Fi 7, USB4, AI Overclocking, Core Flex, PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim

Pros: This is a _great_ motherboard from what I can tell. This review is not about the MB - I'm reviewing NewEgg's packaging

Cons: Horrible NewEgg boxing and shipping. No protection for parts whatsoever. They would have been better off dropping the manufacturers box in the mail and hope for the best.

Overall Review: This appears to be a great motherboard. It's expensive, but that is my only complaint with the product assuming it lasts (due to shipping, not due to ASUS) My actual review is how NewEgg shipped the board. They packaged this motherboard with a power supply and a package of memory in a large box. They used those plastic air pillows to fill in gaps. Unfortunately, all of the air pillows were popped in shipping. There was zero protection and the box was clearly tossed around _a lot_ during shipping. This left the delicate electronic parts to be protected only by the manufacturers packaging. It appears everything survived (barely). I expect a lot more from a company when I buy premium parts. This was sloppy and leaves me to wonder if I will have issues down the road with my parts. The CPU was shipped separately. NewEgg simply dropped the AMD CPU into an envelope mailer and shipped it without any protection. The box was completely crushed. The CPU itself was protected only by the interior plastic packaging. The edges of this plastic were crushed but the actual CPU appears fine. Again - I expect a lot more from a company when I'm buying parts in this price range. I'm looking for a way to contact NE with photos without having to call directly. Difficult. Am*zn may be more expensive and prone to scalping/fakes... but they know how to package and ship properly. I'll be doing business elsewhere from now on. I really liked NewEgg and they were my trusted supplier until now.

Don't bother

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade

Pros: Nice look and feel

Cons: 64 bit version (poor driver support, almost no antivirus software supports the 64 bit version) 32 bit version (better driver support, but poor in the printer and USB areas) Overall, too expensive, bad license policies

Overall Review: You have to call Microsoft if you need to re-install the OS for any valid reason. I find this completely unacceptable. For the price, you don't really get that much over XP. The end-user does not see much more than eye-candy changes. My rating is due to my recent experience with a forced OS reinstall due to a hard drive upgrade. The migration software does not work with Vista and the resulting copied partitions are not bootable or fixable by the install CDs. You have to boot the upgrade disks from a valid microsoft OS - which was difficult in my case since the install CD trashed my previously working bootable windows partitions! Microsoft assumes that their paying customers are theivs until you call then and ask for permission to re-install!
