ASRock ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Fatal1ty 990FX Killer AM3+/AM3 AMD 990FX + AMD SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Updating from my earlier review. This mobo has a nice look. I was delivered in great condition. Their packaging was above and beyond, more so than some mobo's I have purchased. After my first Impressions I am still going to give it 5 stars. The Pros I have seen from it so far is as follows: The UEFI is very user friendly. I like the layout & finding things was very easy. I really I liked that my RAM Timing Profiles were listed already. I have never seen that in the other BIOS I have used. That made it very handy when deciding what to set my RAM to. I do not OC much personally but from what I had seen so far it will be very easy to do if one wanted to. I personally do not really need to & more than likely will not so I won't give an opinion on how well that truly is. You will need to look to other reviews for that, sorry. One plus for me is that has 4 USB 3.0 ports in the back & 2 more for a front header connection. I'm buying more & more USB 3.0 devices so that is good for me. I have always liked the Realtek HD Audio & the one on this board does not disappoint. It works very well. The M2 SSD is going to be fun to try out. I do not have one yet but it is a plus having. I already use a PCIe SSD, the OCZ RevoDriveX2 and love it. So the ability to add an M2 SSD as well is a plus in my mind. The placement for the M2 SSD is perfect since those slots are rarely used do to how GPU's are designed nowadays, taking up multiple slots. The area around the CPU does not have to much crowding going on which is a plus. It allows for better airflow for coolers & even allows for a good choice in which coolers you can use as well. Be it Air or Liquid. I remember having mobo's were some air coolers were cramped & barley fit do to things around the CPU. Like DIMM Slots & the type of Cooling for VRM. This mobo has enough space to make your selection choices a lot broader. I am personally LC'ing mine with an EK Supreme HF block. This mobo comes with a bit of software some I wont use and some I will. The only one I will talk about here is F-Stream which is pretty nice. It has HWMonitor, Fan Controls, Overclocking, Fatal1ty Mouse Port, and Energy Saving. HWMonitor is self explanatory. The Fan Controls are handy. I'll definitely use them. The OverClocking seems nice but I probably won't use it, but it allows for you to change a few things. CPU & GPU Frequency, CPU Multiplier, & HT Ratio as well as various Voltages. The Fatal1ty Mouse Port allows you to change the Polling Rate, but I do that with the Mouse Software instead & I do not have a Fatal1ty Mouse so I wont use it. Energy Saving shows your CPU Power Phase, CPU VCore Voltage and CPU Speed. It also has a big Button that says Energy Saving Power Off, but I am hesitant to press it. LOL All-In-All, the mobo runs great so far. I do not see to many faults with it. Only time will tell and if some issue does come up I'll mention it then.

Cons: I major Con I see is the placement of the SLI/XFire Molex. It is right at the bottom of the board & in a place where it will be obstructed in many cases do to the placement of the PSU's that are bottom mounted. Not all cases will have this issue but its something to watch out for. Especially if they are a Mid Tower cases. I have an NZXT Phantom case & it does not allow for a regular Molex to be plugged in when the mobo is tightened down. Even when the power supply is not installed. Their is a metal clip there that helps position the PSU. It is what is in the way, but even if it was not it would still be tight with the placement of the PSU being so close. I had to remove everything & the mobo in order to plug in a Molex Connector, which by the way I had to also personally make. I basically made a Right Angle Molex. There are Right Angle Molex Connectors on the market but I had some spare parts to make one. In any case I think that this is one thing that needs to be relocated in a future revision. So if the ASRock devs see this review, seriously look at relocating this Molex Connector. For those that are thinking of buying this mobo & using that feature, just be aware that you made need a Right Angle Molex Connector depending on your case. I have pics of this issue with the SLI/XFire Molex Connector & how my DIY Right Angle Connector & Cable look like but I can't seem to add them to this review. :( Another Con is the Killer NIC Software. Not sure how many people have used or tried Killer NICs, but their Software is not something to be desired. They have major issues with Windows, be it Vista, 7, or 8. I have tried the PCIe 2100 Killer NIC & now this e2200 NIC on this mobo. I get the same things with both. Crashes, BSOD's, & even the NIC's themselves have trouble just connecting to the actual website for Killer. Sad really when their NIC alone can not connect to their Own WebSite. The Killer NIC Being built into the mobo means that you need to install the Driver for it in order to use the web for installing & updating Windows. The issue with that is that the Driver they supply is paired with the Software. I had to get a Standalone Driver from a 3rd party just to get the NIC working well. Aside from that the Killer NIC itself is very nice & works well once the driver is installed without the Killer Software. I basically have yet to find any use for their software as it has never worked for me. :( I wish this mobo had a few more Sata ports. It only has 5, one of which is positioned straight up which could have been an issue but thankfully though the M2 SSD basically eliminates the 4th PCI Slot from having anything which is what that Sata Port is lined up with. Still I would like to see that as a Right Angle and also a Double Sata Port instead of a single. The Front Panel HDAudio is also far away. I wish it was closer. Not to bad but annoying. This is all my cons which is good as I used up all my character limit. :)

Overall Review: I would like to see a future revision of this mobo have a PCIe 3.0, not sure why they did not add that to it as well since it is possible. Maybe also an extra Fan Connector closer to the front of the mobo near the 24 Pin connector in the center. I had one there on my Sabertooth 990FX which I used so not having it their made me have to reroute that connection elsewhere. Not a major flaw just a handy placement for a fan connector. :) ASRock really did a nice job on this mobo. The features are nice and it works very well so far. Plus it is a very good looking mobo. Hopefully it will last a long time as well. Only time will tell, and when I have an answer to that I may come back and share what I have experienced. For now though I am really liking this mobo. I will definitely be adding ASRock to my list of mobo brands when the time comes for me to start my next build.

Great GPU

MSI Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card R6970 Lightning

Pros: The stability is good. It is pretty powerful. I can run BF3 on Ultra with ease with just one of these cards, but I do have two of them. Which is even better. :) The cooler is great and cools well, but there is an issue with the design which I'll list in the Cons. It does cool a lot better than stock air coolers so I will list it as a Pro even though I have a Con with it. I like the fact that it also came with caps and plugs for the monitor connections. A nice little added touch. The GPU is sturdy in its design even though it is a bit big. :) It has a metal bracket that reinforces the GPU & separates the Cooler from the rest of the card for heat protection from the cooler. It also has a switch for the BIOs of the card. You can use Silence or Performance. The third position is for future use and an external device. (Note: Do not use this position. Its the far left position. Your GPU will not boot if you do. unless you have the intended external device which I am not sure what that

Cons: The one main con I have with this card is the fan. It sticks out just enough to intrude on the next open slot, basically the third slot. So even though it is a two slot card the third slot can be useless. The fan will touch the card in that slot. The results of this is that the fan will not spin when touching and the cooler will be damaged. This happened to me. I posted about it in the MSI Forums. Search for it and you can find it under (MSI Lighting - Built to be perfect.) So if you want to CrossFire three or four of these GPU's be warned the fans may be an issue. The only other thing is that MSI placard is peeling off. This is do to the adhesive failing under heat. Something that we can easily fix ourselves but shouldn't have to. They should have used a better adhesive for it. I took one Egg off just for the Fan design. It is a poor design flaw on MSI's part. They should have had a lower profile fan so that it would not touch things installed next to it.

Overall Review: As good as NewEgg is and as much as I use them, for some reason they were unable to process my order so I had to get this card (both of them) from another vendor. They said something along the lines of my address not being verified, even though I have ordered from them before as well as after this issue with my processing for this order. Bad luck I guess. No points taken off of the GPU's review score for this though. It was just bad luck with trying to order this from them this one time. I still use NewEgg though. I have not had an issue since. It was just odd that they would not process my order for these GPU's. :( As for this GPU, I will be Liquid Cooling it. Even though the Coolers are great I did damage one of them and I just like them to be better. Just so you know EK has universal Blocks that should fit this. Its not Reference so you may not find Full Blocks for it. Check the MSI Forums in about three weeks I should have a post up after I get them Liquid Cooled. If it works ou

Nice Military theme RAM.

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBSR
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBSR

Pros: This RAM has a real nice look to it which is good for a Military theme. They worked without a hitch upon install and still work great so far. The timings are dead on and the RAM is very stable. They even OC alright, for what little OC'ing I have done.

Cons: None that I can see yet. I have not had it to long though so later on I may do another Review of them to give a perspective of them after a longer period of use.

Overall Review: I put this in my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX and it matches perfectly. I am buying another kit as I type this up so that I can have the full 16GB.
