Excellent board
Pros: - Easy to set up - UEFI BIOS is wonderful - Extremely reliable so far - Has all the ports/expansion slots I need it to have
Cons: None that I can think of, or that matter for a sub-$100 motherboard.
Overall Review: I got this board to do a rebuild, and it was an excellent choice. It has a good amount of sata ports, everything was easy to get to and plug in (even with the large aftermarket cpu fan/heatsink I installed), the bios is a breeze to use, and it had all the slots I needed (one 16x pci-e 2.0 and gigabit ethernet). I don't need any extra features like on the $150 boards, because I dont need to run crossfire or SLI at any point, and the overclocking features will be sufficient should I decide to OC my FX-8320 (though I don't have plans to). I've already recommended this board to someone looking to do a simple rebuild. ASUS has never done me wrong in terms of reliability or quality, and so far this has been no exception. I highly recommend this board.
Worked well, didn't last long.
Pros: Not too loud, not too bright, had good airflow.
Cons: It died last week, only lasted 15 months. I know its a fairly inexpensive fan, but I had $5 80mm fans that had twice the RPM of this fan that lasted 6 years.
Overall Review: I need a replacement for this fan now and I won't be buying this one again.
Pros: - Lots of room for a Mid Tower. - Easy to work in - Sturdy and stable - Fairly stylish - Excellent airflow
Cons: - Makes vibrating noises sometimes, but that's likely a cable buzzing against the case somewhere that I cant locate. - I'd like if it had a little more cable management, but that being said its still pretty good in that department. - Because of the length of my graphics card and the port's location on my motherboard, I have to remove it whenever I need to access/remove my 3.5" bays, something I would imagine is true with most cases that have bottom-mounted PSUs.
Overall Review: None of the cons I listed for the case matter enough to me for me to dock an egg from the 5-egg rating I feel this case deserves. I know a lot of other people with this case and have recommended it to a lot of my friends as well. Its an excellent case at a good price.
Pros: - Fast, affordable, stable - Low profile heatsink is very nice, especially when using large, aftermarket CPU heatsinks. No problems fitting this RAM in with mine.
Cons: Im not a huge fan of the orange heatsink (I wanted the blue one, but the orange was on sale at the time and the blue wasnt and it wasnt worth the price difference. this is not a real con lol).
Overall Review: My brother and I have been buying mainly gskill ram for the last number of years and we've never had a problem with a single stick of RAM from them (whereas Ive had problems with every other brand Ive tried in the same time period). Gskill makes excellent ram, do yourself a favor and get it!
Excellent CPU at an excellent price
Pros: Very fast and stable, and I love having 8 cores despite the fact that most programs cant get full use out of that many yet.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As far as I'm concerned, this is currently the best price-to-performance CPU money can buy right now. AMD has some faster chips, but given that AMD CPUs generally OC very well, its not worth it to me to pay the extra $$$ for more stock speed. And sure, some of the new processors from the other manufacturer might be faster or more efficient, but they generally cost at least $100 more, and personally, I don't think that premium is worth it for what is generally a small boost. This has 8 cores @3.5GHz stock for only $160, who really needs more than that? Ive seen some reviews say that it runs hot, but mine generally sits around 25C idle and maybe the low 40s load. As long as you have good case airflow and a good heatsink, temps wont be an issue (though my apartment is also generally pretty chilly, which would probably explain why my HW monitor says its idle temp is currently 10C lol). As far as overclocking goes, I haven't tried to OC it (and likely wont) because 3.5GHz is more than enough for me right now. I don't doubt that should I want to OC it, I could get it over 4GHz easily.
Great OEM blu-ray drive
Pros: - Inexpensive - Fast - Looks good without being garish, unlike one of my previous drives
Cons: - It is fairly loud while its spinning up and loading, but not during playback (so this isnt a real con, IMO. Just nitpicky).
Overall Review: Id like to stress that I knew going in that this came with no software or cables - ITS OEM. It should be basically expected that it is the drive only. If you want software, pony up for a retail version, dont buy an OEM drive and then complain that it didn't come with software. Its not like OEM DVD drives ever came with burning software (at least, not one I ever bought in the last 10 years). Heck, I cant think of ANY OEM computer part I've purchased in the last 10 years that came with anything other than just the part itself. Research what you're buying before purchasing it and save yourselves some headaches. Anyways... If you need a drive to play blu-rays and already have software and cables or dont mind getting them separately, get this drive. Unlike the previous model I had from another manufacturer, this one didn't come DOA or died on me after a month.
