I see an illuminated, outward-facing logo being mentioned.  Can this be disabled?  I have no interest in buying the card if it has lights I cannot disable.

No lights, no back plate. That's the G1 series. Not really worth the extra dollars IMHO 
... Maybe with a clear side panel and your pc is a show piece

Would this card fit in GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170N all while cased in Cooler Master Elite 130? Thanks in advance!

No, I initially bought this and it fit perfectly for my G7 which is technically the same mobo(motherboard), but I do not think the Shell (cooler master) will be able to hold that type of motherboard and is too small for this graphics card. Ensure your using a case that can hold ATX MoBo's. PCpartpicker is a website that will help you see if everything is compatible in your parts list.

Do I need cables for this video card?

Power: your power supply in your computer should provide them.
Monitor connection:  the card does not come with hdmi, dvi, or DisplayPort connectors.

How many monitors will this card support? I see 4 possible display ports, but only 1 Display port, which makes me think maybe 2, max?

My understanding is it will do three either 3 Display port or 2 Display port 1 hdmi.  If memory serves me not all at 4k only 2 at 4k not from experience I only have one monitor.  Good luck.  Maybe Gigabyte will chime in.

Question 6

It says in the spec it is 11.2 inches long. On the Gigabyte website, they say 280mm, which is almost exactly 11 inches. That may not fit in my HAF 912, or just barely fit. Does anyone have know? If not, does anyone know if the length measurement include just the body of the card, or does measure of length include the distnace of the short leg of the long L-shaped bracket at the end of the card the slides into the back of the case and that you screw in (if that makes sense)? The top of the L is probably 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length. thanks.

I believe it is, within the rig, a total length of 11", with the added .2" regarding the shield mount. As far as size goes this 1070 fit better in my Antec Twelve Hundred (yes, it's a full tower, but still a classic case not prepared for extended cards) but if older GFX cards were having trouble fitting your case, then this one will only be slightly smaller.

I'd probably recommend looking into a 1060 or, if the 1060 doesn't cut it, look into the ITX versions of a 1070 or 1080, which I believe are being released this quarter or have been already, which provide great performance at a loss of overclocking and VRAM, but with a pair you might be satisfied with the setup.

Is it a custom pcb?

It is a custom PCB that comes with an extra power phase, 5+1, over the 4+1 reference. Factory OC'd so you get a higher clock speed over nVidia references, and with the power phase addition, can still push the OC higher if necessary, however, this PCB still uses the referenced single 8-pin, rather than adding an additional 6-pin, for power, so the overall differences from reference boards are minimal, but the Windforce X2 system works quite well this generation, keeping quiet during most loads and staying under 60 degrees, in TX summer heat.

My card reached 1949MHz without any OC on my side. Apparently these cards auto-overclock themselves within safe thermal/voltage boundaries and typically mine caps out around 1949 MHz. It actually clocked lower when I was benchmarking it (1911MHz) but I can only assume that is because of the higher temps. I assume that this card could be pushed much higher but I don't really see a need to.
