Does device need to be plugged into my existing router via cable or just plugged into wall?

The NETGEAR EX2700 N300 Entender ONLY has to be wired when you first initialized the unit to your router.  After that it is a Wireless Unit
that can be pluged into any outlet to create a Hot Spot for your router.  It will have the same IP ADDRESS as your router with the extension of .EXT.  You can also use the same password as your router.  If your device (TV-DVD-LAPTOP) can be wired you can connect a CAT 5 CABLE to the extender for a more secured connection.

Question 2

Ok, maybe I missed this..... does this extend your wifi signal by receiving your existing wifi signal and re-broadcasting it?  Or does it have some sort of Powerline ethernet built in?

No power line.  The port lets you connect something via Ethernet if you can't otherwise.  It rebroadcasts under a new SSID, "yournetwork_ext" for example.  It is not a true repeater that makes your original wifi larger. It takes your small, or limited wifi, and makes it stronger, under a new name.  It plugs straight into a regular power socket and you have to set it up once it boots.  I have been using it now for some time.  It has some quirks and takes some setting up, it seems to be picky about security encryption, I could only get it to work on WPA only.  Other than that, it took my wifi tether from my mobile phone and boosted it through my whole house, more than 2000sf and multiple floors. I am happy with it.

Question 3

It says 2.4 AND 5GHz are supported.  Can it repeat or translate between the two bands, e.g. if I'm using 2.4, can it create a 5GHz and vice versa?

It appears to be a typo or some other error under the "Standars" in the tech specs - it does NOT do 5GHz according to the Netgear webpage.

Does this product need to be connected via an ethernet cord back to the original router?

No. It connects via wireless, just like a device. Ethernet is only for a downstream device (non-wireless desktop or printer)

Is it compatible for power input 100-240V, or only for North America 110V, please?

My unit has 2 prong US socket only good for 110V.
They ought to have the European 220V version!

Will this work with an Actiontec MI424WR Rev. router from Verizon?

It should work fine.  Personally, I have AT&T Uverse and my router from them works fine with this device.  Just make sure you have WPA security enabled and working.  This way, no one will be able to just randomly use your wireless without the code.

Does either antenna unscrew so that an SMA or N-type connector be attached? (Asking this to hook up an independent directional antenna for longer range in a specific direction.) Thanks

how close to the existing router  should this be plugged in?

We have two of these in operation paired with our primary Netgear router. Both are on the second floor placed in windows to give us coverage outside when in the yard and down by a nearby creek.

The closer the better, but one of mine is at least 100 feet away on the second floor, opposite side of the house and works beautifully back to primary router. It's the connection I am typing this very reply on.

For the money, they are good little units. My other unit gets me about 200-300 yards out front. But remember for that sort of coverage, line of sight is key!

But both units in operation for over a year and going strong.

will this work with a verizon router?

We use it with the router provided by Verizon. It was easy to set up and works well.  There is some lag in video gaming.

How big the voltage of this deceive, is it for 110 /220 volt? or automatic 110 and 220 v.

Hmm, I am not sure on the exact voltage.  But, my guess would be a 100 Volt because it plugs into a regular wall outlet like a hair dryer or microwave would plug into.  Hope that helps.
