Is it easy to get the hard drive out?

I bought two of these for a future build with the PC built into a computer desk I'm designing.  At this point I have not used the trays in the build.  However, I have taken an old Sata HD I had on hand and tried the tray out to see how well it will work.  I was very happy with the ease in inserting the drive and removal.  I am very happy with it and think it will work well in my build.  They are very well designed.  I may line the track on either side with a thin layer of rubber just to cut down on any vibrations as there is a very slight amount of play, but with the drive in place I didn't really notice any noise above a whisper if even that.

Does this enclosure case suppot 1 TB HDD?

I have a 3TB in mine and that is what it stated in the paperwork however it is now stating below it will support 4TB but have not tried.

Question 3

What does this do, exactly? It looks like you put an internal HDD in the  hot-swap cage, and then the cage into your computer. But why would I want this?

The front door of the cage is the only movable part once the trayless cage is installed into your computer tower. You just open the door, slip in the HDD about 7/8 th into the slot and close the door. Removal: unlatch the door, pull the door open and remove the HDD.

Why would you want to switch a HDD. I do not believe in having everything that I may use a computer for in one place: General internet use that a rogue download or rogue email from one of your contacts can turn that drive into a mess. I'm not into photos but this alone is an operating hog on other resources. If you are an occasional or hard core gamer a pristine drive gives you fantastic play back. As I do my own yearly taxes, a drive for this is invaluable as a record keeper and a removable item to store in a place from the unexpected. The ultimate best reason: Letting someone else use your computer. This alone speaks for your it  self. These are only a few reasons for this tray.

The more outsources of your computer use, the less impact if a drive goes south. I do not like sourcing this into backups as it has its own caveats of failure, but all to their own.

Question 4

what the switch on the back for? It disable the drive?

Question 5

Is this unit basically the same as the AMS DS-116TL ?  at least I can only see that this iStar has aluminum bezel and door and the AMS has plastic front bezel....not sure about the door.  Anyone know which one is better device? or the same maybe?

From the pictures I have seen on the internet they are basically both the same except for the iStar it has a sturdy aluminum bezel and door.  I bought three of the iStar and they are sturdy and reliable.  I am always swapping them into different computers and they look the same as the day I took them out of the box.  I would go with the iStar especial if they are on sale.
