Characters

Protagonist — Grimoire Weiss
Nier Replicant Nier Replicant The protagonist of this story. His calm expression conceals a darkness underneath, but he cares deeply for his only blood relative, Yonah. The protagonist sets out to find a cure for his sister's illness, but because he puts his sister above even himself, he tends to speak and behave recklessly.
A tome that has slumbered for ages and can miraculously speak the human language. He seems to know everything there is to know about this world, but he has a silly side, which makes his gruff, often condescending persona more tolerable. It seems he has lost part of his memory, so his true identity is unknown.

Yonah
A young girl who loves her brother dearly, and admirably tries her best in all things. She's been sickly since birth, and falls ill to the Black Scrawl. Those around her tend to be drawn in to her magnetic personality.

Kainé
A fierce warrior whose left half of her body is possessed by a Shade. As she was harassed for being intersex, and in order to prevent further possession by the Shade who is weak against sunlight, Kainé chose clothing that exposes her skin. Despite her looks, her vocabulary and attitude are brash and violent; she's crude and eats a lot. She wields dual swords, and eviscerates any Shades that get in her way.

Emil
A boy who lives with his butler in a manor. He is gentle and calm, but has a mysterious power that turns everyone he sees into stone. Emil is guilt-ridden by this power, and wishes to be able to one day see the world with his own eyes without turning those around him into stone. He senses a special friendship with the protagonist, who accepts Emil and his special powers. However, he is a bit dense at times when it comes to other people's feelings.

Devola & Popola
Twin sisters who live in the protagonist's village. They are close confidants of the protagonist and his sister. Popola is the head librarian of the village library, and is reserved and calm. She speaks politely and is kind, but she has a strong sense of self. Her sister, Devola, is very animated and loves to sing; she can often be found near the fountain in the village, singing.

King of Facade
A young king who governs over Facade, a land that honors the law. He is a gentle king who loves his people and is greatly pained by the water shortages and Shade attacks. However, despite the rules being all-important to the people of Facade, the king may have broken more of them than anyone else.

Fyra
A young woman who lives in Facade, a land that honors the law. She was sent to Facade as a servant when she was very young, and the rules forbid her from speaking. Fyra is kind to everyone, and while she's quiet and reserved, she possesses an underlying strength. Due to her innate kindness, and because she was once helped by Kainé, Fyra is friendly to the protagonist and company, who are bewildered upon entering Facade.

Louise - Mermaid Princess
A young woman who was found in a beached shipwreck. She cannot speak properly, perhaps due to something that happened while adrift. The postman in Seafront is the only person she has opened up to.

15 Nightmares Protagonist
“The World of the Recycled Vessel”
The player character of the extra content “15 Nightmares”. An alternative form of the protagonist of the main game.
World

Village/Northern Plains
A peaceful village where the protagonist lives with his younger sister, Yonah. Despite its small size, it has a bar, shop, and library – everything you might need in daily life. Vast plains stretch out to the north, where wild animals like boar make their home.

Facade/Barren Temple
A city of masked people. There are countless rules, which the people must live in accordance with. Wolves roam the nearby desert. Beyond the frequent sandstorms, there lies a temple that the people of Facade are forbidden from entering.

The Aerie
A village built on a sheer cliff. The winds may be refreshing, but the citizens are unwelcoming. Also happens to be Kainé’s homeland.

Junk Heap
Ruins from ancient times. A heap of junk. Precious materials can be found in the deeps, but it is patrolled by unstoppable machines. Two brothers run a shop at the foot of the mountain strengthening weapons to make a living.

Seafront
A trading town on the coast. The lighthouse guides ships as it has done through the ages. Trade is thriving with other countries, and rare items can be found in the market. Also known as a fisherman’s town, it is famous for the fresh seafood cuisine.
Gameplay

Battle
The protagonist has many attack patterns. Add flair to battle by combining various actions such as single-button normal/strong attacks, “sidestepping” by evading towards an enemy and “deflecting” an enemy’s attack by guarding at the right moment to throw it off balance.

Weapons
The protagonist uses 3 types of weapons: one-handed swords, two-handed swords and spears. You can switch between weapon types during battle. Weapons can also be strengthened at certain shops. Every time a weapon is strengthened, a piece of its “Weapon Story” is unveiled.

Magic
As long as Grimoire Weiss is by his side, the protagonist can use magic. This magic that utilises the power of the black blood takes the form of objects such as spears and giant hands, making quick work of Shades. Magic can also be charged up before casting it to increase its power.

Word Edit
You may occasionally obtain “words” from fallen Shades. Assign these words to magic, weapons, or martial arts to add special effects. There is a large variety of effects such as increasing attack power / defense, increasing EXP rate and status ailments to enemies, reaching a total of over 100 words.

Animals / Fishing / Cultivation
The world of this game is filled with many animals and plants. Fulfilling certain conditions will enable you to ride boars, catch fish and cultivate plants. At times, perhaps you may want to just enjoy the world. By the way, the boars can drift.

Auto-Battle
If the difficulty is set to “Easy”, the “Auto-Battle” function can be used. You can also make detailed adjustments such as only selecting Auto-Guard/Evade. Players of all skills can enjoy the game, regardless of their action skill level.
