will this work inside my home PC which has an extra sata power and data cable unused?

Updated answer: As long as the 3.3v line is not part of the power connector, 4 wires is what you want to see. Details: If the SATA power connector has 2X black (ground), 1X red (5v), and 1X yellow (12v) its fine (4 wires total). The issue is that the 'standard' was recently changed for NAS/datacenter hard drives so that if there is 3.3v power connected (the orange line, sometimes white) the drive remains inactive and will not spin up, these have 5 wires instead of 4. If you do not want to modify the power connector, a simple SATA power extension or splitter will do the job as those USUALLY don't have the 3.3v line.
