Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: -lots of surface area -copper pipes run through the base and contact the processor evenly (no lapping necessary) -covers the total surface of my i5 760 -mounts in a front to back orientation so it doesn't block any memory slots. -fan clips are much more sturdy than the ones in most videos. -the supplied fan, while not silent, is pretty darn quiet.

Cons: -cannot mount my 80mm side case fan on the inside of the panel, due to height of the heatsink. I use a Platnum Systems Zodiac case. However, the panel will fit with about 1.5 cm to the top of the copper pipes. -fins are terminally sharp--like a tanto--being struck by this having been thrown...you will likely perish! I mean, this thing must have been crafted by Gillette. Remember that when you are changing out a plug or memory module. All you will hear is a subtle shhing! followed by your onlooking son saying, "ok, now, that might need stitches..." I would assume that blood is rather conductive. -the installation of the backplate and retention clip did eventually turn out to be a little bit of a headache. I was warned, however, by the other reviews. -Instructions just a little ambiguous, but they have really good illustrations. what more do you you need, right? - -

Overall Review: I didn't need stitches, though enough blood spilled that my respect was earned :^D Be careful, guys In all, I think it's the "cat's meow" and gonna work out very well

Enough is Enough PNY

PNY XLR8 VCGGTX4601XPB-OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) OC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
PNY XLR8 VCGGTX4601XPB-OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) OC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: On the occasion that it works properly, it is very smooth. It's a surprising jump from the gtx 275

Cons: From the beginning, I have had artifact problems and random bsod, but tried to fix the problem from a driver pov. Finally, the windows screen would freeze and report that the vga aparatus could not start. Since I had purchased it a couple weeks before I built this system, the RMA window had closed for Newegg, so I RMA'd it back to PNY. They emailed me saying tht they received it but have sent it back and that a detailed explanation would accompany it. I got the card back. It was not in the safe carton I sent it in. It was floating freely in the box in a static bag with a note that said, in refined detail, PASS TEST. Well, guess whet, PNY, it does not pass the test. I have been running an 8800 gs in it's stead and it's been flawless. The GTX 460 froze, artifacted, and bsod with that old familiar message inside of 15 minutes.

Overall Review: From my experience, this superclocked card seems to be overclocked too high for the quality of the components (in this particular instance). I understand that "if it aint broke, we cant fix it," but I cannot help the fact that PNY cant make it break. No other card I have on the premisses does this. This one is broken. As a dissatisfied customer, I expect warranty coverage. Otherwise, I'm out 200 dollars and PNY is out a loyal long-time customer. However, NEWEGG DOES ROCK! and they knows it :^D

Basically, good

TopMate 15.6 - 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop Cooler Cooling Pad, Five Quite Fans and LCD Touch Screen,2400RPM Strong Wind Alien Style Designed for Gamers and Office
TopMate 15.6 - 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop Cooler Cooling Pad, Five Quite Fans and LCD Touch Screen,2400RPM Strong Wind Alien Style Designed for Gamers and Office

Pros: it's whisper quiet at the highest setting, and, while the total volume of air moved isn't a whole lot, the configuration of the fans sees the airflow well-distributed;VIRTUALLY,, the whole underside of the laptop is accounted for. With my last cooling pad, my temps with a Core-i7 2620m were ~50-53 / idle, 65-75 /full load. With the TopMate, current idle: 38-40, load: 58-60...VAST improvement... It's amazing what being able to breath makes...So, despite cons and ingenuity required to make performance optimal, I'm very happy with my purchase. However, due to the most notable cons, I cannot award more than 3 eggs due to designer flaws.

Cons: As indicated by the above 3-egg rating, and likely depending on the laptop to be used with it, there are several key flaws that will need to be addressed prior to using this cooling pad with any of the Dell Precision Workstations. 1) and most significant: The surface is slick as owl #@%t...if you are using any laptop whose feet are furthest to the corners of the base, and without rubberized/non-skid finish on the access panel, your notebook will slide around if you so much as blow on it. Manufacturer provides an optional bracket (which can be inserted into a slot on the front, in order to accommodate notebooks smaller than 17.3", or stowed in a handy compartment on the underside), which you will not be able to use if your CPU/GPU intake vents are on the underside of the laptop. In a nutshell, if you are able to use the bracket without compromising air intake, the only the user side is afforded any stability--side to side shifting is both effortless and open-season on your last nerve! I strongly recommend getting some of that non-skid fabric that's often used in kitchen drawers to prevent flat-wear from sliding around when opening/closing them. Only a couple square inches of fabric are needed to keep the notebook from shifting and won't block any significant airflow. 2)This probably only applies to my leisurely / like-minded colleagues: If you like working whilst perched at the foot of the bed, one that's actually soft enough for sleeping, you'll need to figure some way of keeping the feet of the cooler from sinking into the mattress/sheets, thus defeating the purpose of having the cooler to begin with. Whilst I'm sure production cost is a chief consideration for the manufacturer, if I had a dog in the hunt, I would suggest the rear height adjuster be one unit that folds down the full width of the cooler. As it is, there are two little fold-out flimsy (and pointy) feet, ready to stab deeply into any pliable surface. 3) It wouldn't hurt to have some sort of clearance in the front; perhaps, two low-profile rubber feet at the corners, because even on a tabletop, the clearance for airflow underneath for the front fans is almost negligible, due to the angle of elevation created by the rear height adjusters. Basically, the front of the unit is resting directly on the fan grates. I predict those fans will fail before any others.

Overall Review: If you don't mind modifying it straight out of the box to address the slippy-slidy and underside airflow accommodation, then this cooler will probably be your cat's meow, because, under ideal conditions, it's likely the best performing air-based notebook cooler I've ever used. Therefore, with that said, I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

GTX 460 Completed

ASUS GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Graphics Card ENGTX560 TI DCII/2DI/1GD5
ASUS GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Graphics Card ENGTX560 TI DCII/2DI/1GD5

Pros: -Rock-solid milling. Metallic heat sink cover is of sturdy construction and very sleek -Though "quiet" is subjective, I find it to be barely audible, under a load* -Overall performance edges out my old GTX 460 1gb -New heat sink design facilitates greater processor surface area contact (copper heat pipes and base are integrated) -Dual-Fan cooling solution in every way superior to the reference series design. Never wanders even close to "too hot. I have no fan control currently installed, nor have I encountered a issue for which it's required -Judging by the clock speeds of other offerings, there seems to be ample headroom for OC -Power jacks face the user instead of the HDD brackets (very good, given the length of the card)

Cons: -*One of the fans occasionally emits a rattling/grinding sound that is just audible over the rest of the system. However, allowing it to graze my fingertip while in operation eliminates it. Only ever occurs upon startup. -Not able to stay at 60 fps at 1920 x 1080p on a 22 inch monitor with World of Warcraft set to Ultra in Orgrimmar, only 51-52...still searching for a single-card solution that can. May see about bumping up the processor or research the 570's and 580's

Overall Review: Overall, however, very happy with my current rig, which, thanks to Newegg, has delivered a very good bang-to-buck ratio Intel Core i5 760 (No OC) Biostar TH55B 1156 Intel X25-M 120gb WD Blue 640gb Wintec DDR3-1333 (4x2gb) GTX 560 Ti HtOmega Striker 7.1 (Finally got a great driver for Windows 7 64 bit)

Anxious to look under the hood

XFX Black Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card HD-687A-ZDBC

Pros: Better fan and heatsink configuration than referrence cards of its class (evaluated on a previous card*) See other thoughts Unquestionably and firmly seated in the price/performance happy spot for mainstream gaming (lite enthusiasts)

Cons: Unless AMD drivers are buggy on par with Nvidia, I do not anticipate any.

Overall Review: I purchased an MSI Twin Frozr gtx275, which uses the same fan and heatsink design, some time ago. Never had a single heat or noise issue. There was no need for Afterburner or anything. The fan speed never escallated above minimum, even under a full load, and the temperatures stayed well below threshold. The card is still working in the computer I handed down to my son after constructing a new build for myself. Double Lifetime Warranty looks good onscreen, but all of you enthusiasts know what that usually amounts to. I think Chris Farley said it best in "Tommy Boy," with regards to guaranties and warranties. But, maybe with all the pros looming around this unit will negate the need for any customer support :^D I am replacing a gtx400 series card (the hot-headed problem child one) Genuinely hoping to never again see, "your vga adapter stopped responding unexpectedly but has recovered...but we went ahead and hard-locked your system so you need to reboot anyway."

Not Recommended for a gtx460

Scythe USA SCVSG-2000 VGA Cooler
Scythe USA SCVSG-2000 VGA Cooler

Pros: looks sturdy, no sharp edges, and not nearly as heavy as it appears handy external speed control

Cons: the contact surface area is far less than that of the chip, nearly half. In otherwords, whether you have a flush seating between the chip, paste and hs, there is an equal amount of chip surface open to air. Even with the fan on full-throttle, a 460 will fail to heat issues on little more than boot load alone. Though sources insist this unit is compatible with the gtx460, the instructions, vague and microscopic as they are, omit this model. Yet, they include all other models in the gtx400 series. Most of those cards have the same size chips...yep, I think we may be on the same page.

Overall Review: Scythe is among my favorite fan vendors. They were due a lemon, I suppose. They tried to make a better 460 cooling solution, but it just needs work. This was the last ditch effort to preserve the usefulness of both my gtx460 and PNY. I failed in both respects. The card has suffered from artifact issues since day one, which have been proven to be heat-related in a lab. However, PNY determined that the card was just dandy. 3-year warranty means nothing, period. Now, I suppose I'll just buy another graphics card.

Note to Self:

I could not, in good conscience, recommend this seller to anyone wishing to receive his/her orders on time. The expected deliver time was provided in advance and in the neighborhood of approximately 5-19 days, or so--give or take. However, I ordered on May 17; it is now June 14, and, according to the tracking info (I checked just prior to writing this review), my purchase has yet to leave the seller's packing facility in China. I have since opted to do business with likely Newegg's largest competitor, from a seller who ships from within the US; something I decision I probably should have made nearly a month ago, but I had hoped this Newegg order would follow suit with the previous 20 or so and arrive closer to the 5 days vs. the 19 eta. Alas, however, I'll have the "plan B" purchase in use tomorrow by 8pm and likely for another month before the other arrives--that is, if it arrives at all. At this point I'm not going to hold my breath. Besides, I'm only out a couple o' bucks if the THZY cable never arrives, I'll just be thankful I hadn't waived my better judgement and spent more than could be as easily chalked up as forfeit. Newegg's price was a couple bucks cheaper, but --as they say--you get whatcha pay for...or, in this particular case, you don't. That's the long version--the short: I do not hold Newegg accountable for the seller's unsatisfactory performance in this instance. I will, however--and moving forward--grant THZY a wide berth whenever I'm shopping accessories. In fact, to be completely honest, I think I'll avoid-in general-anything sporting the THZY logo. I hope this review helps somebody. Than you. W.J. Downey
