Pros: Works well, ESXi picked it up right away. Intel equipment just works, no hassle. PCI Express.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Using it to add a pair of dedicated NICs to an ESXi virtual machine. These cards also work great in Linux - I love dealing with any Intel cards, because there's really no dealing to be done. Put the card in the system, and you're off.
Avoid
Pros: They have a nice, heavy-duty feeling.
Cons: Miserable connection on the computer side. Very loose fit, moves easily in the socket and doesn't take much to interrupt the power to the system. I observed this on two servers and a desktop.
Overall Review: There's no way I could use these on my servers and feel comfortable with them.
Pros: Drive works well, good speed despite the 5400 rpm.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: No fault of the drive - owners of HP Pavilion dv9500 laptops need to stay away. The Seagate 7200.3 and 5400.4 drives cause boot problems, specifically a black screen after POST.
Pros: It looks fancy?
Cons: Garbage to work with. Software doesn't work over eSATA. Blinking light is a joke, it won't tell you anything useful. No real way to tell if an array is ready or not - the light stop blinking fairly fast, but there's no way a 4.5TB array initialized that quick. Finally sent this thing back after it ate a partition and the MFT, losing quite a bit.
Overall Review: Avoid - I finally went the file server route instead and came out cheaper.
Pros: Easy install, drivers and web interface work well. Box has everything you'll need. Works with Seagate 1.5TB drives (though I'd recommend using enterprise grade drives).
Cons: None.
Overall Review: My second Areca card, pleased with both so far. Four Seagate drives in RAID 5 gives some impressive read speeds.
Pros: Purchased two sets for our conference rooms. Range on them is fantastic, even the mouse. We were able to test the mouse from over 20 feet away without any lag or jumping.
Cons: Shape of the mouse is a bit weird.
Overall Review: Very happy - we didn't want to pay a lot for wireless, so fancy bluetooth sets were out. These fit the bill very well.
