my x300 6TB died after 6 months. question: are the circuit boards and other components the same in the 500GB or 1TB versions? I think i can swap out some components to get my data but don't pay for the 6TB unless i really have to. thanks.

I'm not sure I only have this 6tb. More importantly did the drive burn up, or did the drive get dislodged while being accessed and the platters and or needle get messed up? Is the sata cable or connector on the motherboard bad? What about the power cables from the power supply? In 27 years I've only had 1 drive fail on me and it burnt up.

It is a standard 3.5"  drive.  From connection end holes are at 27 mm (1 1/16 in), 70 mm (2 3/4 in), 130 mm (5 1/16 in)..

What is the MTBF?  I can't find a Toshiba published number.  One store claimed 1,400,000 hours.  But a review for this drive had a comment from a person that asked Toshiba Japan, and claimed Toshiba told him it was 600,000 (after first telling him they don't publish that value for consumer drives).

Mine failed after 6months (616 hrs on drive).... given MTBF is an estimated average, pretty obvious the rest population (all x300 6TB less mine) just achieved a MTBF > 1.4 million hrs. congrats Toshiba

Will this 6 GB drive mount in a Dell bracket that has 2 mounting holes on each side with a distance between the two holes approximately 4 inches?

Please do not consider purchasing this Samsung disk, or any other disk from this family. They are very inferior in quality. Mine died after two weeks. RMA process is a complete insult. I have over 4 hours of time in dealing with RMA and still no refund. Toshiba has a very disfuntional and incompetent RMA system. They plan to wear you out before you get a refund.  Check Google reviews and other review websites about this family of disks. There are sequential horror stories, page after page.
