How long does the battery last?

This is just a bay of battery cartridges and will NOT work by itself.  You need a matching control unit which is the SMX2000RMLV2U, SMX2200RMLV2U, SMX3000RMLV2U, SMX3000RMLV2UNC, SMX2200RMHV2U, SMX3000RMHV2U or SMX3000RMHV2UNC.  You need one control unit which can support up to 10 of these external packs.

The series of 4 numbers above after the SMX correlates to the maximum wattage you will use, 2000, 2200 or 3000, roughly speaking.  If you will use no more than 2000 watts, any control unit can be used.  If you think your wattage will be 2500 watts, you need the 3000 model as that can support higher wattages.  The tech specs on whatever rack equipment you are getting should have the wattage loads so that you can do the math.  If you need more than 2800 watts, then you'll need a higher series of APC unit.

Also, some of these units have different inputs AND outputs for power plugs.  Some have all three prong, 15 amp plugs, others have 20 amp plugs for what can plug into the unit.  I believe the 3000 unit needs a special 30 amp plug much like a dryer has, a circular plug which an electrician can provide in your server room.  When you decide on your wattage, examine both inputs AND outputs on the APC product page so there are no surprises when you go to install.

Your runtime will vary with wattage draw and how many of these external battery packs you have.  Here is a link to the APC website where you can choose what your wattage draw is and you will get the APPROXIMATE runtime.

I  have a Compatible control unit and i am looking to extend my battery run time... i am debating either this item or SMX120BP ?? they look to be about the same can you please tell me the difference ??

Both equivalent as far as capacity, the SMX120BP is 4U high and not as deep as the SMX120RMBP2U which is much deeper but only 2U high. Really depends on your rack space available.
