Nice braided cables

NORCO C-SFF8087-D SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 Internal Multilane SAS Cable
NORCO C-SFF8087-D SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 Internal Multilane SAS Cable

Pros: Nice braided sheath on cable. Molex-brand connectors. Fair price.

Cons: The retaining clip could be a bit better built for ease of operation. It holds on just fine, but removing it requires a precise grip. That could be a feature in some circumstances, but other cables I've used were a bit easier to remove and never got bumped off. They were much more expensive and that's why I bought these. Take this as an 'every product can use improvement' criticism, nothing swaying a purchase, unless you're going to be removing these several times a day.

Overall Review: Good length for most installs, perfectly functional, connecting an LSI card to a Supermicro case in my installation. I didn't look at the close-up pictures before I bought so I was happily surprised when I got braided cables. There's a Molex shrinkwrap part number on the cable, this may be an all-Molex assembly resold by NORCO.

Won't Fit in Standard Tower/4U Case

Zaward ZCJ013 120mm Long life Duro CPU Cooler
Zaward ZCJ013 120mm Long life Duro CPU Cooler

Pros: Great cooling, solid mounting, everything included unless you need premium thermal compound. AM3 compatible. Big fan. Quiet.

Cons: Doesn't fit in a standard case. I got this for a 4U rackmount server (same as a standard PC case on its side) and the side panel won't fit on. The top of the fins are at the right height, but the heatpipe tips stick up about a half inch higher than any standard PC case can handle. I should have noticed the other review that said, "Due to it's size you really can't have the side cover on unless you make it fit." That's correct. I got a similar cooler with the same size fan for another machine and it doesn't stand up so high off the CPU, so everything fits properly. That manufacturer doesn't make an AM3-compatible unit yet, so I got this one. Now I need to order something different, pull this one and rebuild the system. That other unit also has nice clips for the fan attachment - this spring-wire solution here is a freshman effort.

Overall Review: Using the fan improves the CPU temp by 20 F - this 125W CPU needs the fan. -1 egg for the wire clips, but -2 for not fitting in a PC case. The specs are disclosed and not misleading, but it's a bad design decision - making the heatsink 5mm shorter would dramatically improve case compatibility. Stay away from this revision unless you have an extra-wide case (love your components and keep the sides on your computers for proper airflow!).

Works in BackUPS XS 1500

APC UPS Battery Replacement for APC Back-UPS APC UPS Models BT1500, BT1500BP, BR1500, BX1500, SC1000, SN1000 (RBC33)
APC UPS Battery Replacement for APC Back-UPS APC UPS Models BT1500, BT1500BP, BR1500, BX1500, SC1000, SN1000 (RBC33)

Pros: Works fine. APC quality assured. The first set of batteries lasted 5-6 years - what more can I ask for?

Cons: 2-3x as expensive as compatible brands.

Overall Review: There's no shipping label in the box - you have to go to the website on the 'find out about recycling' slip of paper and fill out a form to create a free UPS label. Not huge, but not obvious. The 'replace battery' light stayed on after a 24-hour charge. I had to hold down the power button for ~5 seconds to kick off a self-test, at which point the light went off. That should be on the instructions instead of me having to search a forum. I probably should have kept the battery harness from the old batteries to use for outboard extended runtime. Yeah, that would have been a bit ghetto.

3 for 3 in MFC-7820N

Rosewill RTC-TN350 Black Toner Replaces Brother TN-350 TN350
Rosewill RTC-TN350 Black Toner Replaces Brother TN-350 TN350

Pros: Functionally indistinguishable from OEM. I'm on the third one of these in two MFC-7820N's, one at work, one at home. Cheap enough to stock a spare!

Cons: No UPS return label in box for old cart?

Overall Review: I don't do a very high volume of printing. I use Staples 28lb bright white paper at work and cheap recycled paper at home. I suspect some of the other complainants have other printer problems and are misattributing the cause, or different models have wider compatibility variances.

Perfect for ASUS mobo header

StarTech.com PLATE9M16 9 Pin Serial Male to 10 Pin Motherboard Header Slot Plate Adapter
StarTech.com PLATE9M16 9 Pin Serial Male to 10 Pin Motherboard Header Slot Plate Adapter

Pros: Works fine. My ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo motherboard needs this AT/Everest/straight-through wiring, not the DTK/cross-over style that I had a pile of.

Cons: The ribbon cable might not be long enough for all applications, but most ATX should be fine. Likely not for a front-panel install.

Overall Review: NewEgg shipped this item in just a bubble-wrap envelope, and the bracket got bent. I pushed it back up against the side of the case and it squared up just fine. Other places sell these under two bucks, but with more expensive shipping - probably a box.

Flakes out

TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged 10/100 Mbps GREENnet Ethernet Desktop Plastic Housing Switch, 5 X 10/100 Mbps Ports, 1Gbps Switching Capacity, TE100-S5
TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged 10/100 Mbps GREENnet Ethernet Desktop Plastic Housing Switch, 5 X 10/100 Mbps Ports, 1Gbps Switching Capacity, TE100-S5

Pros: Small, light, cheap.

Cons: The unit I have will work great for hours, days, or weeks, and then flake out. When it does this, small packets will get through with high packet losses, but large packets won't get through at all. I've done piecewise troubleshooting on it, and ultimately resetting this switch is the fix. It doesn't seem to be dependent on environmental factors. Replacing it with a cheap Linksys eliminates the problem.

Overall Review: Perhaps this unit has a bad memory location, as the other eggs here are quite high. Ideally the switch would detect a fault and reset itself internally, but that's probably asking too much of a very cheap asic. Not worth returning.
