WD drives have been my preferred vendor for almost 30 years, professionally & personally They are reliable and long lasting. The WD Bkue 1TB is a good drive for the non-processing intense everyday use for average user. For a PC SATA III drive, get the newer 7200 rpm 64MB model. Don't max out the storage on any drive. The more full the drive the longer the access time.

Would this be an excellent drive to replace in my 1.0TB/1.5TB Fantom Green Drive Firewire 800/400 USB 2.0 enclosure – purchased back in 2010? Original drive is toast. External drive was strictly used for data back up. Is compatibility an issue or does it NOT matter? I've found a WD 1TB Black Hard Drive as well. RPM 5400 preferred but 7200 might be ok. 64MB Cache preferred. Don't know what drive was in original Fantom Green Drive enclosure. I know enclosure is six years old, but any help appreciated...

I'm not familiar with that particular model however since it has already failed, take it apart and find out what's inside. As long as its a SATA drive with a normal SATA connection you should be okay. The Blue series are standard desktop HDD with a 1 year warranty if it's new. The Black series are for enterprise and are a little more solid and slightly louder. I believe they have a 3 year warranty and are more expensive. The RPM and the cache size will only affect the speed of you backups but not the compatibility. As long as the internal connection is a normal SATA, you should be okay.
