What's the RPM for WD10EURX?

Overall, this product meets the performance requirements of most applications while delivering significantly less power consumption. If your application requires mostly sequential read/writes, then the drive will perform comparable to a 7,200 RPM drive. Also, everything I have read states the RPM to be between 5000 - 5900.

Is this hard drive ok for an HTPC? It says its ideal for surveillance video recording. I just want to make sure its a normal PC hard drive. Thanks

It is a normal hard drive. But I would not use it as my primary (boot) drive. This drive spins down to conserve energy. Buy a Western Digital Black drive.

Will these hard drive fit on a standard desktop computer tower?

Yes.  I installed it in an Antec 300 ATX mid-tower case in a standard 3.5" drive slot.  I also used it temporarily in an Ultra mid-tower case.  This, like any 3.5" hard drive, will fit into just about any, if not every, ATX tower or ATX desktop computer case that has a free 3.5" slot.  This is probably true of most non-ATX cases as well.

This drive uses WD's IntelliPower algorithm as described by the quote I found on WD website that is inserted below.  Conceptually, they vary the speed between  5400 and 7200 RPM to use less power and I think also to make it so the rotational speed can match better with the timing and rate the data is being demanded by the application.  For examply, data streaming for video reading has a consistent pattern to it.  Sometimes, slowing down the rotational speed can make it so there are fewer "just misses" for the next reads.

"The Western Digital drive's IntelliPower algorithm, which varies the rotational speed between 5400RPM and 7200RPM, dictates the Western Digital's rotational speed. Despite this variable rotational speed, Western Digital specifies the same average seek time as Seagate. Western Digital lists this product as a desktop-class drive; it carries a three-year warranty, which falls short of the Seagate's five-year warranty. Western Digital's enterprise drive (RE2-GP) carries a five-year warranty and offers similar performance."

do you have the WD AV-GP WD10EURX INTELLIPOWER 64MB CACHE IN 2 TB?

Hi, I have the 1 TB and it is working fine. They should have a 2 TB -- never had any problems what so ever for what that is worth.

i need jumper settings?

Don't think there are any jumper settings on a SATA drive or not that I have seen on my WD drives.

There are certainly none that my DVR needs. You plug it up, format it using Admin Configuration and it works.

Compatible with Sata 2?

Different revisions of SATA are all compatible, they just designate the transfer speed available on the device.  SATA 1 = 1.5 Gb/s, SATA 2 = 3.0 Gb/s, SATA 3 = 6.0 Gb/s.  This drive supports 6.0 Gb/s (SATA 3), so it is actually capable of faster speeds than a SATA 2 port, but will work fine with it.

It depends on the manufacturer of the SATA converter.  Since this drive is backwards compatible with all older SATA standards it should have no problem.

Short answer: Trade secret. The drive uses IntelliPower, which means it may (or may not) have multiple RPM modes, but that the real RPM is not very important in determining performance (due to advanced technology). For GreenPower drives, sequential access should be ~7200RPM equivalent, while random access has a ~10% performance hit.

Is or maybe the best for all around computing in a home ;based enviroment?

No, not for all round computing. Video systems that this drive was built for typically make large continuous writes or reads hence you would expect the drive to be optimized for that type of file. They are not typically switched off, hence the drive spins 24/7 so lower power consumption is desirable. All round computer drives are optimized for quicker random read/writes which improves with rotational speed. Get a WD Black for a home computer.
