Is the mouse pad able to placed on the left side of the keyboard?

No, the mouse pad is where it is shown and it is part of the keyboard assembly. These units are good but they do not stand up to a rough user. I have been using mine for 6 months and it works as intended. In the end, I ended up not using the mouse extension and I just keep the mouse on the desk.
