It does what I wanted.

Pros: This laptop has done everything that I wanted. Gaming is great, and the screen looks good . No problems with the laptop itself. Make no mistake, at 17.3 inches this is a big laptop, more in line with being a replacement for a desktop than as a laptop. The truth is, I'm thinking of using it as a replacement for my present desktop that is getting fairly old and getting a 15.6 inch laptop for traveling.
Cons: Registering it with MSI has been a problem. No matter how many times I filled out the online forms, they weren't accepted. That's why I dock one star from the rating.
Overall Review: So far, this laptop has been considerably better than the laptop I had from another company.
bent pins

Pros: Don't know of any. The board had bent pins.
Cons: I started to put in the CPU and the CPU wobbled a bit. I took it out saw the pins looked funny, with one side a bit grey looking. So I got a magnifying glass out and saw they were bent. I sent the board back to Newegg for a RMA and the RMA was disallowed. I've been working on computers since the early 1990s and never saw anything like this. So now I have to either send the board to ASUS for replacement/repair or buy a new board. So I'm out more money and time at best and out nearly $400 at worst.
Underperformer at best

Pros: It worked for a little while, but that's all.
Cons: It ran hot from the beginning, even when taking off the side panel for better cooling. I bought it for use with Folding at Home. It didn't produce any higher points per day than the 1080 card it replaced, but it ran so hot that it often throttled to a lower speed and the 1080 card would do better. After a couple months, it pretty much died. Even with only powering the monitor and not running F@H, it could literally take minutes to start EVGA's Precision X.
Overall Review: I've been hospitalized a lot and am having surgery in a few days, so haven't tried to RMA it to EVGA yet. As soon as I'm able, its going back. If you already have a 1080 or 1080 Ti card, don't bother buying this one.
Motherboard failed, RMA to ASUS and it still doesn't work.

Pros: The motherboard worked fine for about two years. That's the only "Pro", if you would call it that.
Cons: A couple months ago, my computer with this board failed. The computer wouldn't even POST. I tested every component I could by placing it into a separate computer, including the CPU and RAM. So I took it to a local computer shop for further diagnosis and the computer shop confirmed what I already suspected; that the motherboard had failed. After several tries, I got ASUS to take the board back under a RMA and to repair or replace it. ASUS sent the board back with a letter saying that the board tested ok and its action was to reflash or update the BIOS. I put the computer together last night (July 9, 2017) and tried to start it. As before, diagnostic lights came on as the motherboard claimed problems with the CPU and RAM and the computer wouldn't even POST. But the CPU and RAM had been tested in another computer that I own and they worked fine, as well as the computer shop having tested them. Indication is that there is a failure in the North Bridge. So I suspect that ASUS didn't actually test the motherboard with a CPU and Ram, but just tried to pass the problem motherboard back to me and hope that it worked with the new BIOS. I think its time to buy a motherboard from a different company.
Overall Review: I have built all my computers since 2002 and currently have 6 working computers, as well as the one that isn't working. So I feel I have a fair amount of experience building and maintaining computers.
repaired, then failed again

Pros: This laptop works great when it works. Unfortunately, it doesn't work long. For a gaming laptop, it just doesn't work well at all. See the cons for details
Cons: A few months ago, it quit working after about 6 months of owership. Sent it to ASUS and ASUS replaced the motherboard and a motherboard cooling fan. A few days ago, the Nvidia graphics card failed. The laptop still works, but only using the Intel integrated graphics, which don't allow me to use it for gaming. Now I have to try to RMA it again. Learned a lesson of sorts; don't buy a gaming laptop from ASUS. The quality/quality control is very poor in my opinion.
Overall Review: I would replace the video car myself, as I have built desktops for years and know my way around computers, but laptop video cards are hard to find, and from what I understand, very hard to replace. Once the warranty is over, I guess I'll be stuck with either not using this laptop for gaming or taking it to a computer shop for repairs.
Inconsistent running

Pros: It runs cool.
Cons: It is very inconsistent. it runs great for a bit and then drops off. Using the GPU Tweak, I can watch it running at 96-97% GPU Usage for a minute or so and then it drops to 0% for several seconds. I first wondered if it was overheating and throttling, but the temperature shows 73c while the GPU Temperature Target is 82c, so it shouldn't be throttling. Yet that is what its acting like. I have a different GTX780 Ti that runs hotter, but never stumbles like this, so plan to ask for a RMA.
