Understanding the evolving demands of next-generation graphics cards, the Y40 expands GPU support to four full slots, providing additional airflow space between the card's edge and the glass. This design is complemented by an intake fan located beneath the power supply shroud, which channels fresh air upwards to the GPU, significantly improving cooling efficiency. The Y40's intelligent design allows for direct air injection into the GPU from a strategically placed fan below the expansion cards. Unlike typical vertical graphics orientations that limit expansion, the Y40 supports up to six half-height expansion cards behind the primary graphics card.
This ensures compatibility with a variety of components such as capture cards, PCIE SSDs, sound cards, and more, provided they are available in a half-height form factor. Cooling is a breeze with the Y40, which mirrors the airflow design of its older sibling, the Y60. The case includes two pre-installed 120mm fans - one beneath the floor and one at the rear. It accommodates a side-mounted liquid cooler, which can fit up to a 280mm radiator with a combined thickness of up to 120mm, perfect for custom loop configurations.
Additionally, the top mount can house up to a 360mm radiator for an impressive dual radiator setup. The Y40 also supports large air coolers over 180mm in height, making it compatible with nearly every CPU air cooler on the market. Cable management is a breeze with the Y40, featuring ample space behind the motherboard shelf and within the PSU shroud. The innovative cable "shelf" under the PSU shroud allows for neater cable organization, keeping them away from critical airflow zones that could impact GPU cooling. The Y40's assembly process is straightforward for those familiar with ATX cases.
It features a widened cable management viewport on the top of the case for easy access to CPU power or fan headers. The front glass is securely screwed to the top and bottom of the case but can be removed during assembly. The cable shelf around the PSU is perfect for securing excess cabling, and additional tie-down points on the back of the case cater to those who are meticulous about cable management. Thermal performance is paramount, and the Y40 benefits from the thermal testing insights gained from the Y60, featuring a similar airflow layout.
For optimal airflow, the side and bottom fans are configured as intake, while the top and rear fans serve as exhaust. When using liquid cooling for both GPU and CPU, the side fans' airflow direction can be adjusted for the best thermal performance. In comparison to the Y60, the Y40 showcases superior air-cooled GPU thermal performance, thanks to the increased clearance between the GPU fans and the side glass.
