I currently have a Linksys Model WRT54G2 router I purchased several years ago.  We have home connection problems when using more than two computers online or when we try to use our wireless printer or Roku device.  Do we need to upgrade with a newer router?

George, You have a valid question and the right answer. Your old router is set to single mode transfer on limited channels and has a power rating less than the new model, however not knowing the conditions of your home, set-up and more, I can advise you to first ensure you've updated the firmware for your old router: Google: support linksys WRT54G2 and follow the reset steps; reset the router to factory settings. If that does not solve your problem, then consider buying the EA3500. Your old router was single band wireless IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, Fast Ethernet (CAT 5 Cable X 4 on the back) Advantages of the new one is: Dual-Band Wireless IEEE 802.11a, b, g and n frequencies and IEEE 802.3, 3u, 3ab this is considerably more channels and dual band on those channels, think of it as having more lanes on a very busy highway, the more the better. what is the maximum number of ports you can forward at a time with this router?

I have only used 2 ports direct but have had 5 computers access via WiFi, with no problem, speed was OK but no one was doing any major downloads, just normal web access.

I currently have Verizon FiOS and all 4 ports are in use on the router, the Verizon router is in the living room. I have two ports in use there and I have 2 ports running all the way down to the basement, the problem is I need 2 more Ethernet connections in the basement, is it possible to take one of the connections in the basement and us this EA3500-NP as a second switch? to allow basically 4 ports available downstairs?

Basically yes. But if all you need is more ethernet connections in your basement it would be cheaper to just buy a "switch" instead of another wireless router. Just plug one of your 2 existing ports in the basement into the incoming port of the new switch and you can then branch out into as many outlet ports as the switch has. The router will "see" all these as new ports. You can pick up a good 4 port switch for under $50, any brand will do. Check to be sure it has at least the fastest speed as your Verizon router, i.e. 10/100/ or 1000 Gbs. Good luck.

No, you cannot stream a signal directly from your TV unless you have a device to capture that signal and broadcast it over your network.
