I spent way too much time researching this because I was annoyed that there was a 2U option that I didn't know about - Thanks Stanley...

The only difference that I can see is the layout of the batteries and therefore the depth and height of the item.  The SMX120BP (which I bought) is 4U high and almost square width and depth at 17w and 19D.  The SMX120RMBP2U is 2U high and more rectangle like at 17W and 26D.  My guess would be that the 2u version would be better suited to a 4 post rack system and the 4u a 2 post rack system for weight distribution.

Also something that I did not know was that at least the SMX120BP uses a Nema 5 -30P locking power plug.  For some stupid reason, I thought it would be a standard 120v plug.
