AMD A8-3850 - A-Series APU (CPU + GPU) Llano Quad-Core 2.9 GHz Socket FM1 100W AMD Radeon HD 6550D Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic - AD3850WNGXBOX

Pros: Excellent performance at a low cost. Easy install.

Cons: None. The lack of the Sandy Bridge transcoding ability may become an issue form me.

Overall Review: This was the heart of a kit of parts purchased from Newegg for a new PC build. This was my first build, though I have done much PC repair over the years. Everything went well thanks to the three video set the Newegg team put out on Youtube. Just Excellent. I agonized over whether to buy this processor of the Intel I5-2500K. I spent considerably less this route and have all the performance I need at this time. For $467 total I have a great looking, high performing PC with SATA 6.0, USB 3.0, a big fast hard drive, 8 gigs of reasonably fast memory and Windows 7 Home Premium. How are you gonna' beat that?

Great for those who enjoy mechanical frustration.

iRobot Roomba 880 Vacuum Cleaning Robot with AeroForce Performance Cleaning System
iRobot Roomba 880 Vacuum Cleaning Robot with AeroForce Performance Cleaning System

Pros: Does clean fairly well when it wants to.

Cons: Instructions are worthless. Won't clean over black or dark colored surfaces. Won't go up on thicker area rugs. Doesn't clean into corners well. Won't return to dock unless it's in sight. Sensors are infrared, not ultrasonic.

Overall Review: Let me begin by saying that my wife likes this thing. But then, she is not the one who has to spend time "tricking" it into doing basic vacuuming tasks. The sensors are infrared, which creates most of its shortcomings. This is made worse by the fact that the instructions do not explain the basic operating principles of the product, nor to they adequately explain how to use the Virtual Wall / Lighthouse accessories. Because of the infrared sensors, the machine thinks it is running off a cliff when it encounters dark colored or black surfaces. It then shuts off, gives you an error 6 and you have to move it to turn it on again. It simply WILL NOT cross black lines or clean black or dark carpeting or floors. UNLESS Mr. Google is your friend. In which case you will find that if you cover all six cliff sensors on the bottom with shiny white paper or cardboard (I used glossy photo paper) it will then happily clean the dark surfaces. Roomba could easily fix this well known problem by allowing the user to switch off the sensors manually. Instead, they don't tell you about this shortcoming and leave you to discover the "fix" yourself. A call to Roomba customer service won't help you. They will tell you to clean the sensors which (You've guessed it!!!!) makes it even worse. In fact, they are pleased to pretend that this is not a problem. You're friend, Mr. Google, will quickly tell you differently. Out of the box, it also won't go up onto thicker area rugs. Same sensor as mentioned above. Same fix. Same denial by Roomba. I used to be able to vacuum the whole joint in about 20 minutes. It's small. Now it takes about a half hour to assist the robot to do the same thing. Oh, did I forget to mention... I still have to get out the canister vac to clean behind the toillets, in the corners, tops of the base boards, etc. If you have a large open expanse of light colored carpet on a single level, you might like this thing. Or if you just need a little more frustration in you life... Go for it! Otherwise, don't sell your Kenmore canister vac.

Good deal on cartridges

Gillette 00994-2 MACH3 Refill Cartridges, 16 Count (2 Pack 8pcs Count)
Gillette 00994-2 MACH3 Refill Cartridges, 16 Count (2 Pack 8pcs Count)

Pros: Excellent shave and long life per cartridge

Cons: Ridiculously expensive.

Overall Review: The Gillette Mach3 shaviing system provides an excellent, close and comfortable shave, albeit at a high price. Cartridges can last up to a month, depending on beard toughness. Got a good buy on two eight cartridge packs through Newegg with ususal quick shipping and service.

Update - Dirt 3 Coupon

Codemasters Gift - DiRT 3 Coupon
Codemasters Gift - DiRT 3 Coupon

Pros: It's a great game. Graphics and sound are excellent. Fun to play.

Cons: As detailed in my earlier review - I had LOTS of trouble logging on to Windows Live Games so I could create a profile in this game and save progress. It turned out, after many hours of research and effort, that there was a blank field in my Windows Live profile - not a required field either. I entered a value in the field, went back to the game, followed the prompts, got a "gamertag" and was good to go.

Overall Review: Microsoft has work to do on their Live Games concept. There should have been a relevant message about the blank field if it was required. Nothing popped. Found nothing on Google or Bing. Just got lucky or I still would not be playing the game.

good value

Thermaltake VL84301W2Z V3 Black Edition with 430W Power Supply ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Thermaltake VL84301W2Z V3 Black Edition with 430W Power Supply ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This is a really decent case / power supply combination at a value price.

Cons: Another drive retainer or two would have been a nice additiion.

Overall Review: This is a good product at a low price. It's nothing fancy, mind you, just a decent product. I had no problems with the case during my build and the air flow is excellent when it's in operation.
