Does the back light stay on when you are not using the keyboard?

Yes it does but you can turn  if you want . It turns off and on with the PC normally. But I have had it stay on after I turned my pc off 2 times. I just booted up the PC and shut it down and it stay off.

Will it work with windows 10?

Yep.  Currently using with with Windows 10 Pro.  No extra drivers or extra software needed.  While the keyboard itself isn't the greatest I've used to type on; the backlit functionality is really what I was after and I've yet to come across a better alternative that offers both split keyboard and backlighting.  Also, on reboots the LEDs default to green so I have to manually set the color back to my preferred blue.  Not a deal breaker but indeed a minor annoyance.

How long is the USB cord?

I measured 5 feet without unplugging and disentangling the cable from behind the computer, so I estimate the cord is about 6 feet long.

do you have to have a windows platform to use this keyboard?  I do not want to use it for anything but typing.

It's a keyboard for a PC.  Your OS choices are simple Linux or Windows, and it will work with both.

Can this keyboard be tied into my MacBook Pro as the primary keyboard just by USB plugin or something? Love that it's backlit, but my laptop keyboard is backlit. But it's not ergonomic at all.

After owning one of these for a while I can honestly say it is one of the worst keyboards I have ever tried to use. I liked the wave pattern, but the way it is angled front to back is hard on the wrists. Is basically to thick in the front at the wrist rest and then flat from there back. just an awkward way to position a keyboard.
