Answer: Although I have not tried this, the answer is No. you will need an external supply fro your drive. The 2.5 a PS is an increase or 0.5 a from the PI2 due to the increased CPU clock. the instantaneous power required when the 4 cores are working is higher although the average power measured with an common VOM may be lower than the 2.0 a as required by the PI2
