Big upgrade over previous graphics
Pros: Based on Passmark's benchmarks, this card is more than twice as fast as the Radeon RX 560 I put in her old PC in May 2018. Her game of choice is Overwatch, and she can definitely feel the speed difference, even at a higher graphics setting for the game. Despite the higher performance level, this card only needed 1 8-pin PCIe power connection.
Cons: I'll post again if we find any.
Overall Review: This card was purchased for the build of my daughter's new PC for college. Hopefully, it will last for the years she is there without having to upgrade it.
Bought this several times for laptops and mini PCs
Pros: Good price, good performance
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: When my PC was giving me odd blue screen messages, I swapped out this memory for another one. Turned out to NOT be this memory that was the problem, so I have had 0 issues with G.SKILL memory.
Definitely fast
Pros: I haven't benchmarked it, but so far it's behaved like the fastest drive I have. On initial install of Windows 10, the process took less than 5 minutes after I entered the product key. Every time I've rebooted, the OS takes less than 10 seconds to go from POST to the login prompt.
Overall Review: I've seen reports of high heat during extended usage. I haven't got that point yet, as I'm still installing my applications. So far, with this light usage, the system cooling fan hasn't spun any faster than normal.
Initial Impressions
Pros: - 7 USB ports, 2 of which can be used for pass-through DisplayPort. Perfect for my new Dell UltraSharp which can use a USB-C port for both a 4K display and upstream USB with charging. The only other mini PC in this form factor with this many ports is the Intel NUC 11 model with a 2nd LAN connector. - Comparable performance with the Intel i7-1185G7, which is also just beginning to come out in mini PC form, as of June 1, 2021. - RE: Performance, Windows 10 installed from USB stick in under 5 minutes. Windows 10 boots in under 10 seconds. - Easy assembly when inserting RAM and storage.
Cons: - Will report back, if any are found.
Overall Review: - Originally announced in November 2020, it took 6 months before it showed up in the US. It was showing up for sale on European web sites at least a month before. Don't know if the delay was due to COVID supply problems, the Suez Canal blockage, or something else. I'm glad I waited, because the European VAT taxes made their prices unattractive. - Still in early setup stages, and the full configuration won't be in place until the UltraSharp monitor is delivered in July. I will amend this review when I have everything set. - One interesting detail to note that is not in any article or description of this product: it comes with a heat sink for the M.2 SSD. If you already have an M.2 SSD with a heat sink, then you won't need the one that is included, but then you would have to make sure that yours will fit inside the case. The clearance is roughly 5/8". If you install a 2nd drive on the SATA3 connection, then the clearance will be reduced by the height of your drive, 7.5 mm to 9 mm depending on what you have. - Configuration details: 64 GB G.SKILL DDR4-3200 CL22 RAM, WD 1 TB SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD for OS and application storage, WD SA500 Red 2 TB SATA3 SSD for main storage, (eventually) using all 3 video connectors in the back (mDP, HDMI, USB-C w/DP pass-through). - The cooling fan was audible, but sounded normal to me. It wasn't annoying or too loud. Of course, the activity so far has been light, mainly setup and installation of Windows and applications, so we'll see if it gets really loud during heavy use. With prior Brix Pros that I've had (i7-5775), the fan could sound like a jet engine going to max power.
Good power at a good price
Pros: - Fast CPU - Good battery life - 360 degree touch screen so it can double as a tablet - Built-in privacy shutter for the web cam
Cons: - The world is going wireless. There is no Rj-45 port to use a wired network. - The trend is to be thin and low weight, so there is no optical drive, and changing out the battery is a major operation. Probably nobody else cares about these things so I didn't deduct from the rating. Since this laptop was for my daughter, she certainly doesn't.
Overall Review: - Configuration I bought had 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD. For this level of power, I generally see about $400 or more than the price I paid for this model. In fact, I saw another, similar HP model that was $700 more, and the only difference was that the other one had a 4K screen. - There are only 3 USB ports: 2 Type-A and 1 Type-C. That could be good or bad, depending on your usage pattern. - There is an HDMI port so you can hook up an external monitor without using an extra adapter. - The keyboard has a numeric keypad, and is not backlit. - Having previous experience with HP x360 laptops, I knew that it was better to buy the configuration that I wanted, rather than trying to upgrade components afterwards. It is possible to upgrade RAM and storage if you find you need more, but taking off the back cover is pretty hard. You also find yourself nearly destroying the bottom pads to get to the screws underneath. You'll either need super glue to put them back in place, or order a replacement set from HP. If you're skilled enough to handle it, great. Otherwise, save yourself some grief, and spend a little more to get more RAM and storage. To paraphrase an old saying: Work expands to fill the time and space allotted to it.
Great, long power cord with lots of room for big power blocks
Pros: - 6 foot power cord is perfect for the room it is in. - Room enough for 4 big power blocks, and some oddly shaped power adapters - 2 USB power ports - APC quality and warranty - "Cute" green lighting along the edge when the main power switch is on (my daughter's words) - Fast Newegg shipping
Cons: - None, so far
Overall Review: Bought for my daughter's dorm room as she starts college. The 6-foot power cord was perfect given how far away the outlet was from the desk. That, the number of outlets, and the spacing for various power adapters, along with the usual APC quality were why I chose this. Added 10/24/2019: So nice, I bought it twice! My daughter needed another power strip, so naturally I bought another of the same thing since the first one worked out so well.
New product. Good packaging. Item as described. Item arrived quickly, and in good condition. Thank you!
So far, their products have not let me down
I have a number of the USB 3 to 2.5" SATA3 enclosures. Every drive I've used has worked, and been recognized on all the computers I've attached to. The only thing I wish was that the cord was a bit longer.
