Will this motherboard support Windows Server 2016? If so, how can I find drivers for 2016? Thank you!

Yes. But I still question whether I was 'taken' or not. NewEgg has a lot of listings from third-parties at above-retail prices, especially when it comes to older hardware that is no longer sold at retail.

Question 2

The specs only talk about ECC memory.  Can this run with non ECC memory?

A Few Rules to Keep Closely in Mind:
* All DIMMs must be DDR4
* Registered DIMMs must be ECC only
* Unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMM) are not supported
* A maximum of 8 logical ranks per channel is allowed
* When 1 DIMM is used it must be populated in DIMM Slot 0 (furthest away from the CPU) of a
given channel
* Mixing of Physical Rank DIMM’s within a channel is allowed
* Mixing of LRDIMM with any other DIMM type is not allowed
* Mixing of different DDR4 operating frequencies is not advised. If DIMM’s with different
frequencies are mixed, all DIMMs will run at the lowest common frequency
* DIMMs with different timing parameters can be installed on different slots within the same
channel, but only timings that support the slowest DIMM will be applied to all DIMMs
* When single, dual, or quad rank DIMMs are populated for 2DPC or 3DPC, always populate the
higher number rank DIMM first (starting from the farthest slot)
* Unbalanced memory configurations will result in a performance loss so always populate
memory channels evenly for best performance

Question 3

Can anybody confirm this board working with E5-2600 v1 or v2 families?  The spec says that v3 and v4 are supported, but makes no mention of the older families.  I have E5-2640 v2 and E5-2660 v1 chips that I would like to use with this board.

The sockets are 2011-3, the V2 and V1 are 2011 (NOT 2011-3). Thus they are not compatible. Also, the CPUs that you have do not support DDR4.

Does the motherboard shop with BIOS 2.0 or newer so that it will work with V4 CPUs out of the box?

In case anyone is interested in the future - I purchased this in November 2016 and it came with revision 2.0 and worked with my 2640v4 out of the box.

Will this fit a E5-1650 v3 processor?

The Motherboard specs from the manufacturers website state that is is only suitable for E5-2600 V3 family of processors. Outside of that, That chip is also a LGA2011-3, so technically it may fit, I don't know that it would work. Also the E5-1600 family is only for Single CPU configuration, So don't know why you would want a Dual CPU board..

Question 6

So I have already purchased Two Intel Xeon E5-2687W Sandy Bridge-EP 3.1GHz.   TDP of 150.  That's five TDP higher than recommended.  Will this mobo simply not work? I've heard that the TDP numbers are slightly different among different manufacturers anyway, do you think the system would be okay as long as I had adequate cooling?

This isn't for sandy bridge Xeon CPUs. This board is for haswell Xeons. I think you would want something in the X9 series from supermicro. But to answer the TDP question supermicro is pretty on point with the TDP over loading the board may or may not work but its like overclocking a CPU... It can destroy the board or it may work. Usually in servers I try to follow all the recommendations for stability and reliability.

Does this motherboard fit into non-Supermicro E-ATX tower cases?  Reviewers for their dual X9 boards say that they had to customize their cases for it.

E-ATX is the size but the mounting points are slightly different check out the manual on the SuperMicro site so you can match up the mount points with the case you have or are looking at.

Will this motherboard support LGA 2011 i7 processor?

Unfortunately not as the I series of CPUs and all desktop CPUs for that matter do not support being in a board with more that 1 CPU. That said you may be able to put a single I7 in this board but would not recommend it

Question 10

This board requires two eight-pin power connectors.  However my current PSU (output: 600W) only has one such plug.  If I only use a single CPU can I get away with only using one eight-pin connector?  Or are both required at all times.

Accepted Answer

You need one 8-pin power plug for each processor.  The board has labels for CPU1 power and CPU2 power, so as long as you stay with 1 processor, one 8-pin will work.  However, when you do upgrade to 2 processors, you will need a second dedicated 8 pin power connection.
