I use Linux, not Windows, but my guess is NO.  Those discs are likely rather specialized.  The Asus is a FILE player and recorder.  Example:  It's NOT a BluRay movie player since it does NOT have any  cryptographic software that BluRay movie players have.  You can record thousands of photos and videos, thousands of documents and spreadsheets, more thousands of audio files - probably on a single recordable BluRay disc.  You can even use dual layer blank discs and record an insane number of those files.  My Asus external drive works great!  Of course it works with Windows and other operating systems, as a file player and recorder.  I suspect your game discs have copy protection which would likely prevent them from working.  (There's an Xbox model that has an internal BluRay drive and the drive itself seems to be an ordinary BluRay player drive so perhaps the decryption software is all in your Windows PC.)   Short answer, this Asus gizmo is fantastic, but may or may not work for your specific use.  Good luck!

This is my first time to look for external blu-ray drives. I want to know is it that it is suitable to watch blu-ray disc on pc/laptop with this drive?

Yes,of cource,but you have to have a software,like Powerdvd or Windvd to be able to watch your blu rays on your PC.
That's why I bought this drive,to watch my dvd's and a blu rays...

So, does it come with any software at all. no burning or playing software at all. what world come to, you can't buy a burner without software... tell me it is not so lol?

I do not recall mine coming with software.  Typically the most recent software is found on a download, so even when hardware does come with software, it's often best to find the downloadable.  Also, windows often has something as good onboard the OS.

I'm looking at this to plug into my new laptop that came without a disc drive but a very nice video card I have slots on disc I like to play and have to install and have disc in to play some of them. Also would be using to transfer files to disc when needed... Will this work for my needs ???

It will work just fine for you.  You can also do a lot more with it.  You might move thousands of videos and photos off your laptop and onto a recordable BluRay disc.  That would free lots of space on the laptops drive.  You could download half a dozen Linux distros to a disc and then spend a few hours testing various flavors of Linux.  A normal BD-R disc holds around 23.5GB of whatever you want.  This Asus drive can also use dual layer discs that can hold almost 50GB of stuff.  I think there are such things out there as quad layer recordable discs that could hold almost a hundred GB of stuff, though I don't know if this drive can use those.  You could move several DVDs onto one BD-R.  Or you could copy dozens of old CD discs onto a single BD-R.   I always record at the slowest speed because I'm too cheap to risk wasting a blank disc that would have to be discarded.  But I ought to move to at least medium speed recording...it does take a while to record 23.5 Gigs to a disc.  I just noticed this drive can use blank discs that hold up to 128GB per disc.  For me that's overkill.   Anyway, enjoy!!

The description lists this as USB 2.0 / USB 3.0. Does it actually transfer at a USB 3.0 rate or does it go at a USB 2.0 transfer rate?

It probably does transfer at USB 3 speed.  However, I always record at the slowest possible rate that my software permits.  (XFBurn runs on Linux)  Even 'questionable' (which is to say CHEAP) blank discs work fine.  Oh, I've never used double layer BD-R discs, so I can't speak to that sort of thing.  Another thing, this is not a BD movie player, you can record and play files, not commercial movies.  Anyway, this ASUS BD recorder works fine and I'm pleased with it!

Will this play and write 4K UHD DIscs?

Sorry, Benny, this ASUS BD player/BD-R recorder is wonderful for HD...which is 1920x1080 and for other stuff like 1280x720 and for SD videos.  It's also great for backups of years and years of your documents and spreadsheets, etc.  And all on one little disc!  But what you're asking for is an ULTRA HD recorder.  I've never seen one...yet.  What you're asking for could record and play at up to 3840x2160 resolution.  AND it would be able to record and play High Dynamic Range stuff...if your DSLR and video camera can handle that stuff.  And it would probably be able to record and play at very high 'color depth.'  (like 'P3 Color Gamut' stuff)  And you could store years and years of documents for you AND maybe for your entire neighborhood...all on one little (very special) UHD BluRay disc.  Perhaps you have multi-thousand dollar still and video cameras?  Photos at extremely high resolution and HDR, etc in RAW mode are huge, so perhaps you need such high storage capacity.  And what you're hoping to find is likely to be very expensive and blank discs are likely to very expensive, too.
I use my ASUS recorder with 'ordinary' BD-R discs, but I could use higher capacity blank discs.  They cost more of course, but they can hold twice as much stuff.  Perhaps quadruple the capacity!  But those blank discs cost a lot more and it takes much longer to record on those very, very high capacity discs.  Benny, good luck on your quest!!  - Phil in Albuquerque
