Q: So recently build a FreeNAS box with this PS and the ASRock C2550D4I, SilverStone DS380B case. 16GB ECC memory. Got it working for a solid week. Never had to power it off. Got home one day and noticed it was OFF. I saw the NIC lights on so it was getting power but when i tried to power it on nothing. Only once after I unplugged it would the fans spin for < 1 s then just stop. Would not power up. I have to almost jump start the system by holding down the power button for 10s then let go, then press power again and hopefully it boots up. When I hook up a regular full power supply it works just fine. I RMA's 1st PS and had both to test wit and they bot did the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Is the power supply getting adequate airflow? I had one of these die on me after leaving it on overnight because the case I had it in wasn't providing good air flow. I fixed the airflow problem and my new one has lasted me for 2 years.

Q: What is the length of the cables that come with this power supply?

They are much shorter than "normal" cables since this power supply is intended to be used in smaller cases like mini-ITX. Q: i am hoping to build this in a SG06-lite. I see some people here have put this in an SG05, with the warning that the middle support bar had to be removed. Would this solution work for the SG06 as well? Has anyone used this in that unit?

I am running the ST45SF-G in an SG05 with NO modification. Considering the SG06 is just a longer SG05, you will have zero issue with using this without modification.

Q: I'm going to make my own cables by sleeving. I need to know what kind of connectors to buy?

I just reused the ones that came with the power supply, unpinned the cables and ran new softer more flexible wire to length and sleeved them worked out grate for me.

Q: Could I get the physical dimensions of this PSU? Thank you in advance.

According to Silverstone's website, here are the dimensions: Standard 125mm (W) x 63.5mm (H) x 100mm (D) In inches: 4.92126" (W) x 2.5" (H) x 3.93701" (D) SFX Form-Factor size take up less space for easier installation.

Q: will this fit in a hp desktop its a HP Envy h8 1520t? If it doesn't can you recommend any. Thanks!!

It would fit it in both size and power, no problem.

Question 1

I've seen a few posts where people modified this PSU with a new fan to keep it quiet. Is this necessary with the newest version?

I didn't think it was loud at all. I just ordered mine ~3 months ago and I put it in the Lian Li pc-q25b which has one 120 mm and one 140 mm and it was right next to the couch in the living room and u couldn't hear it unless it was completely silent and I put my ear down by it. It's moved into a spare bedroom now that's really quite a and I can barely notice it. That's with 4 hdd s too. I did turn the fans down in the bios since I'm only running an i3 and only integrated video as a nas + some other non intensive tasks.

I would use a online power supply usage calculator. You can search for that.  I think if you run your settings on high performance and over clocked that just the power supply fan would be working to cool more regularly. It sounds almost like a silent fan, and not high rpm fan.  I am powering Asus mini gtx670 with itx enclosure and quad core Intel with one ssd and one 3tb wd red low power hd.  The fan is only on after playing a game for 1+ hrs. With itx I can also keep fans at minimum rpm below 42c and 100% rpm at 47c "for games only". You can position the power supply nearest a vent for fresh air, or normal to suck hot air from near CPU.  I have no complaints with this itx gold power pack.
