will this fry the motherboard if powered by the motherboard ?

The specs on the fan state a 0.7 Amp draw and the plug is designed for the motherboard "Case Fan" connection, so you should be OK. Typical connections, like USB, were designed to limit the draw to 0.5 Amps, but the motherboard fan connectors should be able to handle the load.

Question 2

I can't get RPM control to work on it. It only has one wire going to the three pin connecter. Of course the one wire location was not on the fan control pin on my motherboard, it was lined up with the sense pin. I had to cut the little plastic slider guard thing on the mobo to fit the RPM control slot on the correct pin.

Still doesn't work.
Is it supposed to have only one wire going to the three pin connecter? Or Did I simply get a defective unit. It powers on and rips air like none other... Simply can't control RPM

You aren't supposed to be able to control RPM with this fan.  It's a 2900RPM fan, unless you send it less voltage.  It's supposed to be beefy, and it's supposed to be loud.  When I ordered this I was looking for the most airflow possible and how loud it was did not concern me.

As far as the pins not lining up, do you have some kind of pre-built machine with 4-pin connectors on the motherboard?  I think sometimes these come with a large 4-pin molex to power it, and only one wire going to the 3pin small connector to detect RPM.
