This one is unmanaged.  Managed switches are typically a lot more expensive.

Question 2

I need to eliminate 4 routers. I need lots of connections that can access the internet. Can I plug this into my bonded dsl modem and provide internet access to all my wired devices? My networking skills are not good, I need a simple plug and play solution, not type in a million numbers and try to figure out which device I am trying to enable access to the network, suck as blu ray player,tv,xbox,play station,minix tv box,5 pc's , 2 printers home audio, etc. Will this work for me ?

Yes, this should work for what you're wanting to do. "Unmanaged" switches are designed for plug n play without advanced configuration needed. Make sure that your DSL modem has DHCP server built in (DHCP is what gives all your devices their addresses). If your modem doesn't do this then your devices won't have internet access.

Is this unit wall-mountable? Does it have mounting holes on the bottom? Thanks!

It IS wall-mountable, but not with holes on the underside of the unit. It has to small brackets that extend on either side of the unit. The brackets also lift the unit away from the wall very slightly to allow for cooling.

Can the switches be daisy chained?

it is a simple 24 port gigabit switch... I use it on a very busy LAN with more than 30 video cameras and another 28 PC and two servers.... and a TON of internet access

I have 3 stacked on each other daisy together

I used 
switch 1- switch2
port 1 to port 1,

switch 2 - switch 3
port 13 to port 1

Will there be any benefits to upgrading from a much older 8 port switch from netgear, 2006 to a newer 2017-2018 model?

If your older switch is a 10/100 Mbps and the new one is 10/100/1000 Mbps  and the rest of your network is also able to support 10/100/1000 Mbps and  Also if you have devices that can support the higher speeds then yes it will improve you network speeds specially if you do large file transfers like I do.

Need some help... I have just built a new house, wired the house extensively (OVERMUCH extensively) with Cat6A cables, so multiple ports in every room (just in case , and in case someone decides to move their desk or hook up somewhere else or another device in the future etc.)  I am looking for a device that I can put in the "data closet" which I can connect my internet connection cable to, and then also connect my home ethernet cables to as-needed, to give them internet access ... also would like to be able to establish a home "intranet" if possible- is this the type of device I want?  Having trouble understanding the differences between a Router, Hub, and Switch.  Also, I have a home camera security system which is a NVR/PoE IP Camera setup ... because THAT device has PoE, do I need a PoE Switch as well?  Thank you very much.

Hello. This device is a switch which will connect all of your LAN lines together. Then they can communicate between themselves via their operating systems. The only issue I see with this switch is that it will require a dedicated cooling unit in the closet since it doesn't have a fan in it.  Im using it for just printers and simple devices. Also it isnt a router, so its only used to extend the network if you want to have more then one switch at points in the house. A Router will join two different networks or Subnets togeter. Routers can also be used for switching if configured correctly. Also a Router can hand out all of the IP addresses to your devices (DHCP) . So the router would usually connect your Internet service provider to your home network if it was a LAN line coming straight into the house. Usually they can provide a device or help you set it up onsite. A lot of things are combined now and providers have modem/router/switch combos that act as all of this. Only need POE if you the only way to power the device is through the LAN cable. Maybe no power available at the camera itself is what I mean. Hope this helps. It takes some time to learn all the lingo doing this stuff. Good Luck..

Is it managed or unmanaged switch? what's the difference?

This is an unmanaged switch. Basicly,  it's plug and play. You plug things in and it auto sets each port as an access or uplink port and senses the speed. With a managed switch,  you have to log into the device and configure each port individually based on what you want the port to function as.  There's a bigger learning curve with managed switch but has a lot more functionality. This is more than enough for home use,  but not sure about business use unless you have a complete flat network

The specs defined it as a rackmount switch.  Is anyone deploying this in a tabletop setup instead? If so, have you had any heat dissipation issues?  I worry the fanless design presumes a rack-mounted deployment.

I don't think it would make a different to rackmount it or tabletop. Unless you mount it in a climate controlled cabinet. The unit doesn't get very hot anyway.

I have purchased about 50 of these switches. They are extremely reliable and you can't beat the lifetime warranty. We've had only 2 fail and no questions asks with exchanging them. Do you have a specific question about the switch ports?

Is this switch port specific for the uplink to the router?

There is no dedicated uplink port.  All the ports can be used for an uplink.
