Question 1

Shouldn't this Power supply come on without plugged into my motherboard?
Because it doesn't at all.

Power supplies generally require contact with a motherboard to power up.  The motherboard itself is what sends the on, active connection and off signals to the power supply, so without having a connection to a motherboard, I'm not sure how you are even trying to tell it to turn on (none of the buttons on the power supply can do that).

Does this PSU come with a molex connector?

The nice part about this power supply is that all of the connectors are not connected to the PS. You choose the connectors that you need. It does have a molex connector for Motherboard as well as the molex for the 12volt hard drives and some video cards.

I have a mid sized tower right now (18.30" x 8.10" x 18.00") just want to make sure that this power supply will fit. I want to replace my old power supply which was 5.9" x 3.4" x 6.3"?

Hi Wes,
I purchased this for a Aero cool Strike X mid tower build and it fits perfectly. In this case it mounts in the bottom of the case but should fit in a top mounting case as well. So far I have no issues and being semi-modular, the connections and wire routing was a breeze. I really think your making a great choice. I would truly recommend this power supply to anyone that's looking for a reliable power supply unit.

Well the max amount of power that card will consume is 300 watts so that's leaves the rest of your system with enough watts.. also that card requires 2 8 pin connectors which I think that power supply has I'm not positive. So it should work but you should check to see if it has the 8 pin connectors

Behind the psu there is a red switch one side saying 115 and another 230 which way should the switch be facing should it be up and covering the 115 or down and covering the 230 I live in the US btw?

You should have it on 115. Try to play a game heavy on graphics. If you have an ASUS motherboard it will shut off after 45minutes or so if the wattage is too much. 115 is the safest way to go for those in the US. If you live outside of the US or 115 causes power issues Google your area and see which voltage setting is used in your area. Places like China etc. I have heard use 230. Remember if you set it to 230 and your motherboard cannot handle this wattage it will shut off or burn out when it reaches its limit. This happens in a high graphics game or when using programs like Skype that overload the power. Check before setting to 230.

Will this power a single Nvidia Geforce 265 GTX or are the amps too low?

there is no 265 GTX - I assume its 275 GTX that has 550W min req from power supply (max GPU draw is 220W or something). I would say as long as you are not trying to SLI both of them on this power supply - its plenty enough

will this spike up my electricity bill, if so is there any way i can save power without buying a new power supply?

It will not "spike" up your electricity bill, but it does pull more watts then some other supplies. However, if your system NEEDS that power, downgrading isn't really an option. Your power bill is usually a function of Kilo-watt-hours. So if this supply has 200 more watts, then you will be charged for 0.2 Kilowatt hours more per hour of running at max draw. If you are really worried about it, make sure you have the power saving features implemented on your machine so it isn't running unless you are using it.

Also it won't pull (much) more power than it needs, so you shouldn't see a large rise unless you are running power heavy software constantly on your computer

As a point of reference, an old school light bulb pulls 60 watts, and a microwave usually pulls 1100-1400 watts

I would recommend a higher power supply to be safe but it does power my two gtx 660's

will a R9 270x run on this PSU ?

The unit is rated for 730W and has good readings on the rails, It's advertised by RaidMax as being Crossfire Ready, which means it will support two pretty heavy duty video cards. Looks like your card draws about 230 watts. Sounds like there's plenty of room to spare. I'm not an engineer, however. You might check with Raidmax before you buy.
