Does this product come with a SATA cable and 2.5" Mounting bracket?

No, sometimes the "Retail" box versions of drives do. This product isn't retail box, just drive only, no SATA cable or mounting bracket. For the price, I think it's a good drive and it's still running well for me.

Does this device come formatted?

Accepted Answer

No - you can format anything though: NTFS, FAT, exfat, etc.

I usually just clone a hard drive to get the speed upgrade and that process takes care of the formatting.

What cable is required for this?

You will need a USB external drive device and some software to copy (clone) your hard drive to the SSD drive - I have used free software and an external usb 2.5 drive.  The best solution that I have found is the apricorn 4.3.8 upgrade suite (kit) which includes a USB to HD cable and the software CD to clone your hard drive.

Depends on the year/model of MacBook Pro. Type this exact model drive plus your exact model and OS version of your MacBook Pro together into google to see. Without the rest of your info, there is no way to check.

Would it make any difference to plug this into a SATA express instead of just the SATA 3?

SATA "express"  is what the PCs named Apple innovation of connecting an SSD with *TWO* SATA cords teamed, when a single was choking the read speed. I saw express on motherboards only briefly, when everyone realized U2 was so much better....the stick carrying the flash chips wired right into the CPU pins.

No, but it is the BETTER version.  Why?  Because this drive uses MLC nand which is superior to the next generation which uses TLC.  Why do later versions switch to TLC if it's inferior you ask?  Because it's cheaper.  Google "slc mlc tlc" and read up on the differences.  Then, buy only MLC drives.

You didn't specify which Thunderbolt enclosure, but it should work, not much difference between using a SSD drive vs a standard HD.

This has the same square pattern of screw holes on the bottom as any "spinner" mechanical Hard Drive found inside a laptop. Ditto, two left-side holes and two right-edge holes. Dozens of differently-shaped Dell PCs are called XPS. If your particular model has the larger "3.5 inch Desktop"  spinner drive, there's dozens of framework bracket (plastic and metal) choices here to solidly anchor this into the space meant for the larger 3.5" H.D....the bracket has six or ten screw holes around it's edges that line up exactly to the screw locations in desktop chassis. An SSD is so light that Velcro tape or nylon zip-ties are often used instead.
