loved it . used primarily for virtual reality
Pros: pros- good keyboard. the keyboard from the acer predator helios needs to take some lessons from these guys. powerful and responsive cpu and gpu. no stuttering on vr. all games worked flawlessly even that poor quality game medal of honor vr. i refunded it immediately because the game was made by people who do not understand how vr works, however the game functioned very well from what little i saw. half life alyx works perfectly. i upgraded immediately with a 1tb ssd drive and it was very easy to upgrade, the only thing you have to be carful of is that there are two wires that connect flashing lights on the bottom of the laptop to the rest of the machine and when you take the screws out and take the laptop apart, be carefuell not to pull on the wires too hard you need to disconnect them carefully.
Cons: cons- the backlight bleed, it is much worse than on my 2018 acer predator helios, however i can only see the backlight bleed when im looking at a blank screen, so whatever. - the positioning of the hdmi cable input, it is in the back and far from any of the usb c inputs for the vr and it makes it hard to secure it properly so as to prevent pulling directly on the actual laptop itself and causing damage during normal usage. i need a way to prevent damage to the laptop during normal usage and you are making it difficult. shame on you asus. otherwise good laptop
Overall Review: i would reccommend this laptop with the caveat that it needs an immediate ssd upgrade or good luck playing any games with your tiny little storage space. upgradeability is good. price is debatably decent, but the rtx 30 series is coming soon, and vr is looking deader every day, if you need a quality mid to top tier laptop for gaming pick this one. if you can what for the rtx 30 series do that instead.
get it when its on sale, $40 is the most you should pay for this.
Pros: small, compact, charges relatively fast, sound quality and volume are surprisingly good.
Cons: desinks constantly from bluetooth 4.0 causing a strange echo effect in earbuds, easily damaged when they hit the ground after they easily slip right out of your ear, only holds a charge for about just under 2 hours, once it went completely dead for about 2 days then just as mysteriously started working again.
Overall Review: would recommend for people who just absolutely, positively, completely hate cords, and are willing to make large sacrifices to avoid them.
worth the money
Pros: while marketed as an entry level laptop, this machine is definitely not that. like, ok, i can play ftl, but i cant play total war. still impressive for its time though.
Cons: none really, i still use this as my backup machine when all else fails and this thing is 5 years old, so that says something for reliability.
Overall Review: think of this machine as a chromebook and some mad german scientist strapped a low powered nvidia chip to it
loved it
Pros: pros- this has been a great laptop for the last 2 years. about a year ago the fans started making an odd noise, but it was still under warranty so acer fixed it right up and it has been fine ever since. this is what i would consider an entry level laptop. it is capable of playing all vr games made before 11/20 on mid to low settings
Cons: cons-sounds like its a jet trying to reach low earth orbit when playing games. also the keyboard is the worst ive ever used and im an old computer nerd so thats saying something.
Overall Review: definitely a solid purchase, i doubt that you will regret buying this machine. I would recommend this particular build, well worth the money
buyer beware-not plug and play- mid level tech skills required-otherwise good price to storage ratio
Pros: to get the hard drive to work follow these instructions To allocate the unallocated space as a usable hard drive in Windows, follow these steps: Open the Disk Management console. ... Right-click the unallocated volume. Choose New Simple Volume from the shortcut menu. ... Click the Next button. Set the size of the new volume by using the Simple Volume Size in MB text box.
Cons: hope you like tech stuff, NOT FOR GRANDMA OR THE EASILY FRUSTRATED!
